"Something funny happened along the way." I'm a sucker for stories that combine AI and self-awareness, which is why BLADE RUNNER has been a favorite of my since forever. And this episode is similar, but different enough to still seem fresh, especially with the consumerism spin on things.
I imagine this scenario could happen in a totally automated system that is dependent on auto-shipping. But...it's a bit far fetched especially if people stop paying for the service. It was an entertaining episode nonetheless.
The future of Amazon :P
"It'd take me years to figure how to read this."Yeah...it'd probably help if the code wasn't scrolling constantly.
Easily the best of the series.
Not very faithful to the original short story, though in this case, it was probably a good thing. Quite a good episode was produced from one of PKD's less interesting works. Especially good performance from Janelle Monae as Alice.
Don't read the following if you're an SJW or a woman, you have been warned, any offence taken is on your own head. (it's also spoilers)Unfortunately I have my usual un-woke quibble with this episode. Fawning and unrealistic portrayals of female techies/inventors will not suddenly make women become inventors or IT geniuses. Women invent at one tenth the rate for their proportion of the population (they only account for 5% of patents despite being 50% of the population) and enter IT fields at only slightly higher rates. So, unless the Autofac was an AutoBeautySalon it's very unlikely that its inventor would have been a woman. :D
