If you take a quick look at Political Animals, you'd say that it either deserved to be more than a simple 6 episode season or else it should have been made into a 2 or 3h movie. But that would be neglecting how awesome Political Animals ended up being.
Yes, the show deserved to be picked up for another season, but I'm grateful that it was even made in the first place, instead of being run as a movie. Over 6hr of TV (instead of 2hr of cinema) we got to see characters evolve under different lights and show their true colors, we got to watch the storyline unfold and develop, and it all happened with masterful writing and acting.
Sigourney Weaver was brilliant as always (reminding me a bit of Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady) but it was Carla Gugino and Ciaran Hinds who took me by surprise. I don't remember seeing either of them in any movie or TV show, so they were a true discovery for me. The nuances in Carla's scenes with Sigourney were amazing, so was the back-and-forth between Sigourney and Ciaran.
I'm not one to follow, care or enjoy politics, let alone American politics, but Political Animals won me over.
