Some of our favorite intros (420 to be exact) are in this mix we did for BBC Radio1 a while ago, and it is actually quite a good introduction to the rest of Radio Soulwax, as a lot of tracks that are featured in this hour will come back in later shows to follow. As the title suggests, this is a mix of some of the nicest and oddest cover versions we have found over the years. We had a huge selection to choose from but you can only fit so many into an hour, so we might have to make the sequel at some point. It is likely that you will know all the songs but not yet in this guise, and in case you don't know them, we have included the sleeves of the originals as well in this amazing stop motion animation film.

For the last few years we have been touring as 2manydjs with a show called 'Under The Covers' where a giant screen behind us shows the animated sleeves of the respective songs. There used to be a time when DJ's would put up the sleeve of the record they were playing on display behind them, and we basically brought a ridiculously exaggerated and expensive version of that idea on tour with us. We compiled some of the best animations here with some local ones we did for specific
countries like japan/brazil/france/italy/turkey/etc. This hour is the first of three parts that are possibly the closest thing to a 2manydjs festival set here on RSWX.

If you're not familiar with library music, it's basically instrumental records that were (and still are) sold to provide television- and filmmakers with appropriate soundbeds for their images. A lot of it (read most of it) can be boring, but fortunately many the old records were played and recorded by some of the best session musicians during their downtime, so there are some incredible gems to be found. Library records have since become very sought after by producers and we were lucky enough to have found a big lot of them, about 10 years ago. Instead of animating the sleeves, we have filmed our librarian here at RSWX while she goes about her working day.

Remember when rap was just rap, and not hip hop? Just a guy with mic talking the song? Everyone had to have a 'rap' record, as you will be able to tell from this mix, and even though some of them are amazing, maybe not everyone should have made one. Fortunately we edited all the interesting bits together for your enjoyment. This mix contains no singing whatsoever, only 'rapping'.

Welcome to outer space! This is the first installment of a trip through the galaxies featuring some of our favorite space-related tracks, usually of the 'disco' kind. As you'll see in the beginning of the hour we set off in a spaceship and fly through the sleeves, sometimes into the alternate universe of the sleeves, on a journey that will eventually bring us back to earth...
We recommend you watch and dance to this hour in a darkened room without any distractions.

Here's is a mix of Chicago House records mostly made between 1984 and 1989. Somewhere down the line, House music has lost the balls it displayed in these Trax and we love how raw and messed up these guys made their records sound with so few tools, so this is an homage to the pioneers of that era. Special thanks to Gherky Perks with whom we did a first version of this mix.

The first time we spent some quality time on the island of Ibiza, we were appalled by the music blasting from every bar, shop, club and car stereo, which was such a shame because that place is so magical and special. So we decided to make our own soundtrack to the white island by burning these compilations of slightly darker electronic music from different eras with a similar sound and kept listening to them whilst driving around. This is the first hour in a series called Mehari, which is named after the car we think would be the ideal vehicle in which to drive around and listen to these mixes.
Instead of animating the record sleeves, we ran them through our amazing Fairlight CVI mixer, a rare and incredible video effects machine which turns everything into either video art, or an 80's music video, depends how you look at it, but goes perfectly with the music.

We can't pretend to have been huge hardcore punk fans at the time, but have grown to love it now, with help from some friends but most of all from Steve, our drummer. Using their records and his tapes (of local hardcore radio shows from northern France), we tried to give you our take on 80s hardcore. Some people might feel it's not very respectful, but listen, those guys take themselves way too seriously and by cutting it up the way we did, we feel we have kept to the original spirit and energy of the music. This show contains some of the best sleeves yet on RSWX.

Even though these Belgian records sound very "now", they are actually 20 years old and were meant to be played at a much, much faster speed. At the time this was the devil's music for us, but we have learned to listen through the claps and distorted kicks and discovered that if you slow these really dark and heavy techno records down all the way to about 115 bpm, it suddenly makes them sound less frantic, ballsier and a lot sexier. Belgium at its best when pitched down.
The covers of these records are quite generic and don't really lend themselves to animating , so we figured we would bring you the visual aspect of this musical genre that you can't not be fascinated by: the dance. We were very lucky to have found some people who can still do the typical moves, and with them dancing in front of the record sleeves (and sometimes inside of them) we bring you our ultimate tribute to a glorious period in our Belgian musical heritage.
We feel very strongly about this hour, and would like to show that quite often, the best things in life are already right in front of us, we just have to open our eyes (and ears) to them. We stand corrected!

This tour took us all over the world, we played 130 UTC shows in 32 countries over a period of 2 years and it was also the starting point for RSWX. We made these animations especially for the live show and while some of them were made the day before the gig, sometimes it took us weeks to get an animation right. Using DVD's and DVJ players instead of CD's and CDJ players, we were manipulating the images you saw on the screen and the music at the same time.

Disco is such a generic word now, it can mean so many different things and yet funnily enough it is the only way to describe the music in this mix. There might be different types of it in this hour, but it's all disco as far as we're concerned.

Second part of the Mehari series, where we go slightly darker and a lot faster, this one is destined for high speed drives through the hills of your Balearic island of choice, but preferably in that type of car.

There was a brief period between 1987 and 1989 where Belgium, of all places, was pushing the envelope in electronic music. It preceded England's 'second summer of love' and was probably our equivalent of it, in that a whole generation's lives quite rapidly became based around taking ecstasy, dressing up, going clubbing and dancing to an odd, slowed down hypnotic mix of New Wave, Acid, EBM and everything else that sounded good. New Beat became a real craze that would attract thousands of ravers from all over Europe to Belgium's newly thriving club scene every weekend and inspired hundreds of releases that stormed the Belgian charts, regardless of it being completely ignored by the media and radio because it was not seen as "real" music. It was counterculture of the cheapest kind and due to its massive success, it quickly became very cheesy and novelty based, but there was an amazing side to New Beat that was dark and messed up and our mix is based on those releases, with a few hits thrown in for good measure.

We sometimes buy records just for their covers...this is particularly true of our extensive collection of records with sexy ladies on. We've chosen 850 of these, starting with a visual collage of lovely legs, luscious lips, etc. & then making the music fit afterwards. This is in essence a reverse way of working, and god knows it was a huge challenge to find enough good musical bits to work with and cut up, but it definitely makes for an interesting show that can be enjoyed in many different ways!
Make sure not to listen to the mix without the visuals and try to see the connections we made, that is, if you have the (eye)balls to watch this one all the way through!

The benelux was a way of bringing together an alliance of three small countries that are next to each other : BELGIUM, the NETHERLANDS and LUXEMBOURG. As with many european countries, there are a lot of little gems stemming from these three places over various decades that you have possibly never heard before, but really should!

The third leg in a trilogy of hours that contain animations we made for our Under The Covers live DJ show, this one is decidedly more danceable. It mainly consists of recent releases and has a few exclusive unreleased tracks in there, with some classics thrown in for good measure. We start out with Saam Farahmand's amazing trailer for RSWX called "Machine" which was a joy to play in front of big audiences if only to see people's reactions on their faces, and continue onwards with what is possibly the most party-friendly show on RSWX yet.
This mix contains quite a few Belgian tracks, and only one animation that was made for a specific market, see if you can guess which one it is.

Our homage to the man whose ability to change whilst remaining himself has been a massive influence on us. There are many legends in the music industry but for us, there is no greater than the mighty Dave. We've included all things Bowie, whether that is original songs, covers, backing vocals, production work or reworks we made, to attempt to give you the full scope of the man's genius.
For the visual side to this mix our friend Wim Reygaert (who also made the amazing film for Into The Vortex) came up with the most ambitious film for RSWX, taking us on a fever dream time travel through the man's career starring the amazing Hannelore Knuts as Dave. We've got to extend a special thank you to the cast and crew and everyone involved for putting so much time and energy and heart and soul into this amazing film, it is a pure labour of love for the phenomenon that is Bowie.

We’ve decided to end this crazy beautiful experiment called RSWX with the album that started the whole trip and was the unexpected gift that kept on giving.
While we watched it from the sideline lead a life of its own, unintentionally capturing a zeitgeist and becoming that weird thing that is an underground hit via word of mouth, we had already continued on many other musical ventures and have never really looked back until now, but we’re glad we have, as it’s a fitting way to end this project based on sharing (a small part of) our record collection.
We’d like to thank everyone involved from the animators to the coders and everyone in between who worked their asses of to make this labour of love a reality, but of course especially the viewers (or listeners if you will). Your massive response and attention has almost bankrupted us in bandwidth costs but it was totally worth it!
So here it is: 12 yrs, 2 months and 24 days later, we have re-united 45 tracks in 1 single hour of visual mayhem. As Heard On the Radio Pt II becomes As Seen On the App..is this technically Pt III? Probably. Who’s counting? Who cares? Just watch it
