WOW, two seasons down and still no wolf
About as literary as modern sci-fi on TV gets. Digging the atheist vs. believers angle. Really enjoyed the pilot: thought provoking mixed with good action (esp. the second half) and can't wait to see where this series goes.
this thing is EPIC !!! IT CAN EASILY BE THE NEXT GOT, the story is fantastic and addictive, best thing that came out of 2020 lol
People's standards of what is good has clearly gone down during Covid 19. We did all of season 1 trying to give it a really fair shot. It's bad and appears to have no direction. Too many things don't make any sense. Good scifi has a simple rule, create any universe you want but remember your universe has rules and you must follow them. This show does not follow this rule and fails on many levels.
wow this is superb top acting all around including the children, great story.
What a load of $hite! After the first 5 minutes, I was pretty sure it was going to be crap... I gave it until the end of that episode and half of the second before pulling the plug - waay more time than I should have. What a waste of an hour and a half of my life. I've seen some bad shows in my life, but this just went to the top (or is it bottom).
Acting is non-existent and the story goes nowhere at an excruciatingly slow pace and doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If you liked 2001 a Space Odyssey then this might be your cup of tea, but I like to understand what I watch, not let some pretentious director/ writer waste my time telling me a story that actually isn't a story.
-11/10
While a quick summary of Raised by Wolves would be sufficient if it were made up simply by the phrase bovine manure, a more thorough review is likely in order, so as to, hopefully, save even one person from watching it. This is because, in a spectacular display of lost opportunities, Raised by Wolves manages to miss both the Religion vs Science angle and the display of any sort of coherent sociological human behaviour.
Characters are monolithic, being either religious and attributing everything to the series’ deity, Sol, or conversely, being atheist and possessing practically no spirituality. Basic human behaviours and needs are not present. In a series that supposedly takes place on a far away planet, humans are portrayed as having no conscious understanding of their isolation or frailty, behaving simply as they would if they were living on a planet populated by billions of people, killing each other with ease and for trivial reasons.
Survival strategies, reproductive strategies, building a wall – all these things do not exist in this series, touched on only very briefly in the first couple of episodes and then forgotten forever. This in a series possessing two androids that need not sleep, who could have built a veritable fortress in the years this season supposedly spans. Crowned by an abundance of errors of logic, the grandest example of which must be the series’ finale decision to plunge into the planet’s core, in order to kill an infant flying worm (yes…) instead of simply chopping its head off, the series delivers on no fronts.
Except perhaps the actor’s performance, which is admittedly good, especially Abubakar Salim’s and Travis Fimmel’s. This is not enough to save this series though. It’s rubbish.
Despite me liking this show quite a bit, and being sad that there will not be a season three, I find this to be a hard show to outwardly recommend. The sci-fi premise is a ways out there, the plot is complex, and that will surely not be for everyone. But I find it beautiful and well crafted, and if the premise sounds interesting you should check it out if you need something to watch. You might love it, but just be weary its not for everyone.
Average Season Review: 8/10
Recommendation - Watch if You Need Content (for Complex Sci-Fi Fans)
This is seriously starting to drag big time. There is just nothing really happening except the kids are getting so annoying. Stopped watching.
The more episodes the less I understand, so much weird stuff happening, and little to none explanation...
It just gets infinitely stupider each episode...
The shame I feel knowing I actually watched this show, is how I imagine people who get tricked into losing money to scams must feel.
Don't let the decent first 2 episodes lure you in like it did me. This show is pure nonsensical boring trash. It does not get better. As it progresses. Only worse.
Turn back while you still can.
Started as weird and interesting but ended up as incoherent mess.
After seeing how series 2 ended and that it's been cancelled I can't help thinking what a waste of time it was watching it, it needs another season to wrap up the story.
Certainly not a show for me. Stopped halfway through episode 3. The first two episodes had some interesting ideas and themes, but overall were a slow burn, or simply just boring aside from the final 10 minutes. I didn't find the characters to be very interesting, and the main child's accent and attitude are just plain annoying. The show isn't outright bad, but for me, it's boring and not all that interesting.
This was one of my favourite shows in a long time and ofcourse it got cancelled. What an absolute shame. Is it possible someone else can pick it up and finish it off?
When a show isn't dumb enough it gets canceled, it is like the award of every exceptional show.
I’ve just finished Season 2 and there is no announcement, yet, about whether it will be renewed. I was concerned when I read this,
Speaking to Collider in February 2022, showrunner Aaron Guzikowski revealed that he's already working on scripts for season three: "Who's to say whether or not it will get ordered to production, if we'll get to that point. But I have to keep working on it because if it does get ordered – we have no source material, so I have to keep writing it. So as long as the show goes on, I imagine that's my entire universe.”
I was concerned because this seems to strengthen my suspicions that the entire series lacked a canon which would have given us defined story arcs and end points. I’ve enjoyed the developments of characters and sub plots but have missed a cohesiveness. I’ll maintain my rating of 9 (superb) out of 10, but if the next season doesn’t give us some sense of the showrunner’s greater design. I may hop off this train. It is too frustrating to know the story will never resolve.
My review of Season 1 is here: https://trakt.tv/comments/331429
I really don't understand how this show doesn't have higher ratings here. This is one of the most unique and inventive sci-fi experiences ever made. Sure it's weird and often leaving you wondering WTF is going on but those aspects are why I love it so much. If they don't renew it for season 3, I'll lose faith in humanity and faith in Sol!
I loved Season 1.
I was disappointed by Season 2.
I suppose there will be a Season 3 and I will give it a chance.
I like this show for it's uniqueness, but the acting could use some work. I'm watching it, I enjoy it well enough, but it drags a bit. The accents are weird, the story is unique, the acting so-so, the sci-fi aspect is decent. Being cancelled was almost all but a certainty, it's probably a bit too far out there for all but the most hard-core sci-fi lovers.
This is watched on Crave
Why has Raised by Wolves been marked as 'Ended'? It is renewed for Season 2 (tvline.com)
We're hooked...my wife has a lady-boner for androids..oops...I mean Artificial Persons..sorry Bishop
10/10 This Show Is :fire: Lit , All In One Pack Starwars Vibes, Vikings Vibes, Yes Ragnar is here :joy: , Horror+Thriller+SiFi+History :heavy_check_mark::fire::fire::fire:
I watched all the first season and being a sci fi fan would love to enjoy it there's just a few problems.
All in all, it seem interesting and I watched it but I wasn't gripped at all. It was pretty meh.
Interesting premise but how were they supposed to recreate civilization with 6 individuals ? They would not have had enough genetic diversity
It's not bad but all these 10 reviews are a joke "smart Sci-Fi" give me a break the android gave birth to a snake and the answer of how it happened is "Don't know how it happened"
It was a good Show from sci-fi perspective but overall the show was all over the place. It generated more questions than answers. You will sit there going what is happening & will have to wait till season 2 to make any sense. It’s like a Netflix show. And the ending...you will literally say “what the fuck” straying at the screen then you will throw up your hands saying “well that was stupid”.
This is not only one of the best Sci-Fi shows to come out this year, it is one of the best shows the come out this year!
This is ... terrible. Descriptions of the show sounded good, but I couldn't even stomach the first episode. The acting is really poor and the Props used wouldn't even be fit for voluntary small village theater performance. Except if you have an extreme fetisch for Latex costumes.
I've watched and enjoyed many low-budget Sci-Fi Movies/Shows, but was simply a waste of time.
I wanted to so badly enjoy this but I just couldn’t. I watched the entire season because I’m a HUGE sci-fi fan and will watch anything sci-fi at least once. But, it was hard to get through this. And I can take bad sci-fi when it’s purposefully written that way, and watch it for what it is and not get irritated by it. But when it’s clear it was meant to be something else altogether than some purposely, and rigidly, bad sci-fi ..... it makes it hard.
The first episode.... semi-decent. But it was like the story had zero direction. It jumps all over the place in a non-sensible way — Guzikowski and the writers throw in so many knockoff elements it made my eyes roll. Prometheus, Alien, to name a few, and perhaps they were even trying to garner some Easter Egg with Travis Fimmel’s character in Vikings, but my God, if that’s the case it was WAY overdone. The ending didn’t make much sense at all. And overall, especially the last half of the season, it was too much of an attempt at artistry and not enough sensible story arc to drive this to where it needed to go, which.... honestly, I can’t figure out where they’re wanting to go with this story, and I’m wondering if they even know.
Standards during and post-Covid have severely gone down hill. Things are being rushed, and networks are putting too much into lazy writing and production just to get something out there so they can keep that money moving.
Personally.... I would prefer to wait and have good sci-fi, than be force-fed junk. If there’s a second season, I hope they throw out the old book, so to speak, and re-write the story arcs and try to salvage the craziness from the first season.
This is a feast if you are a cerebral SciFi fan (attested by the many YouTube videos dedicated to explaining it). It has an intelligent premise. The casting is perfect (Amanda Collins owns the screen) and the performances are nuanced. The locations are eerie and very otherworldly. The tension is well calibrated and the mystery is complex and haunting. Two warnings: don’t watch this if you have a snake phobia and don’t expect the season to resolve the mystery (the season finale actually leaves us with more questions than answers) but I think you, like I, will be left with a hunger for more. I give this series a 9 (superb) out of 10 [SciFi Thriller]
This show started very sowly and wasn't looking to be whatg it turned out to be... A great serie for its genre.
Once again well done "Ridley Scott" for your futuristic touch.
I was the first 3 episode and couldn't stop watching, great drama, ots of surprises and tense atmosphere.
Interesting and binge-worthy Sci-Fi show.
The best thing about 'Raised by Wolves' is the Ridley Scott (inspired) envisioned visual style. The show looks like it has a decent or big budget, although I could not find any definitive numbers anywhere, and it looks very good as long you are not put off by it's dark and bleak environments.
Storywise it is interesting enough, but it can be somewhat messy, switching between character focus and plot focus, and fails to indulge us more into the depth of characters and philosophy. A lot of ideas, and not a lot of answers. The aim seemed to be to present as much ideas as possible in this first season, to feed off of them later during multiple seasons. It cumulates into a season that was akin to one big pilot episode.
~ This comment was written after season 1. ~
I really love this show. I've never binged 5 episodes in 24 hours of the same show. Loving Marcus, Sue and Father. Travis F. rocks.
Spot on with the mess and blender comments. A real weird mix of science and religion and you need to take a lot of stuff for granted to account for most the story. Cancelled so it doesn't end on much of a finished/satisfying note. I love weird shit though!
So I watched it not sure if it’s deep or just a mess. Like the writers grabbed a bunch of religious themes and sci-fi themes and hit blend.
This was a cool show. Sci-Fi is so hit or miss with me, but this one was a good one. I’m actually kind of bummed out that they canceled it.
Was expecting to see more bad reviews than good. Surprising to see people rave about this show. Characters were terrible. Storyline was terrible. Special effects were embarrassingly bad. And this was an HBO show. Had more of a Sci Fy or FFreeform vibe to it. Wise choice to cancel it.
This is admittedly a hard show to watch for some. I lean toward hard sci-fi and this is definitely not that. What it is, or was shall I say, was something different and for that I’ll watch. The problems, however, were numerous and it felt like the same erroneous logic traps were drawn out over and over and over again. I was determined to see it thru because of curiosity, but I’ll admit I struggled thru Season 2 after the first few episodes. Am I sorry I watched this series? No. But I would def not watch again, and I’m not terribly upset it was cancelled. There were many things really wrong with it IMO and I worry about people who don’t see the egregious logical errors on display, many flaunted upfront and center. This kind of stuff should NOT be encouraged. For example, Campion’s love of the murder bot, with which everyone was ok with despite the poor ethnic girl’s near-death experience with it — classic terrible writing where we give a principal character special treatment and throw logic, and ETHICS, in the garbage. Robots who can’t make simple right decisions, robots who “don’t know,” robots with.. feelings, who.. need to wear what? Hard to write a coherent review, S2 in particular was a trainwreck. I can’t even say the ending left us hanging, it was just.. bad. Like they had zero consideration that it may not be renewed, and simply didn’t care to even try to close S2 out properly.
Some of the acting was good, in as good as it could be for such an exercise. Father was a fantastic cast, another too. Shame some of the principal kids were given such stupid stories, many times I had to remind myself that an actor’s doing a great job to become so annoying.
As a sci-fi show it gets a 4 from me. Anything that descends into horror loses a lot of point very fast in my book. As a “something else” show it gets a 6, with parts that are 7.
Sad to see it getting canceled :(
Absolute nonsense, I love it. Dark Souls, Blade Runner, Alien, and the Bible shoved in a blender and a whole heap of stuff comes out.
Another good show cancelled. I guess there aren't enough people in this niche target audience to justify the cost of production, in other words - they aren't making enough money. Ah well, another one bites the dust.
A huge shame they cancelled this and I don't understand why. I think it is one of the most unique recent Sci-Fi shows to appear. Great cinematic environment and the best and the Kepler 22b rendition is the most dynamic alien landscape I have "scene" for a long time. I like the twist with Acid oceans. For some reason I don't really understand the landscape aspects remind me of the 1973 experimental animated "Fantastic Planet" which was great for that time.
The story line is unique and interesting and the acting also good. The evolution of "mother" and "father" is also very interesting and I love their surprised reaction to their "humanization". I have not finished watching all of S2 yet but feel I will definitely be left hanging with most of the story line. So sad this is ending...
Bummed out about this not being renewed. Lame decision.
this show is very good. sad to read that hbo canceled season 3
it has been canned, no series 3
The originality of the script and the depth of the characters successfully made me overlook some of the downsides of this show. Excited for season 3.
Good start leading to messy stories, and mildly interesting character development.... maybe a third season to really close things off?
An absolute classic. Slow-burn science fiction with a harrowing finale. Looking forward to season two!
show has just been cancelled
I was really enjoying this show to begin with but the pregnancy storyline with Mother is absolutely terrible. The final episode was awful. Such a disappointment
This was a waste of my goddamned time.
good season loved it but not great.. it has much potential .. looking forward to this series ... the sci-fiction is great and I loved the acting ... My man TraTravis  loved the evolution of his character
An obvious substitute for HBO's Western World : the first and second episodes were directed by big-name directors, and the directors' characteristic style was applied throughout the season. All the cliffhanger are simply the baits to the audience, which will not be solved in the future episodes for sure). Comparatively speaking, the first season of Western World is still very well completed, while the plot of Raised by Wolves has collapsed since Episode Six. Also pretty sure Amanda Collin will get an Emmy award for her incredible acting.
This has to be the worst TV show I have ever witnessed. There is not even a close second. I tapped out at ~15min in. There is no way to redeem the first 15 mins.
Ragnar Lothbrok in SPAAAAACE lol
This is a very interesting show. It is and can be a bit confusing at times, but if you stick with it, it will pay off in the end.
I was not sure of this show after watching the first episode but am glad I stuck with it and am now looking forward to season 2 (if it doesnt get cancelled first).
3 episodes in and this show is a disjointed mess. I don't know if I want to go any further
Don't feck with mother
I am really enjoying this. A bit slow at times but so far it has managed to peak my interest without turning into a cheese fest. I'm not quite sure where this sits right now but I have nothing better to watch and it's turned into my go to. Will see if it continues to grab my interest but so far I'd say a solid 7 or 8 and well worth a dabble.
Edit: Okay I've raised this to a 9. I'm really really liking the show. It my current favourite thing I'm watching. Not perfect but it's got a special place in my watching schedule. I'm saving it up for nights when I can kick back, have a beer and really relax. If you like sci-fi you've got to check it out and try to get beyond the first 3 episodes. It's one of those that keeps improving. Whether it's everyone's cup of tea is questionable but it has me fascinated... and as a background... I love Vikings, Black Sails, Peaky blinders, Aliens movies.... so if these are your cup of tea might be worth checking it out. What have you got to lose... a few hours of your life I am sure you waste on rubbish like me all the time! :)
Brilliant dude from vikings is spellbinding Terrific Turned All the way Up! My favorite pandemic/lock down must see Tv
Abubakar Salim, please step on my neck.
This is an excellent show.
Every so often the American screenwriters get it right and this is one of those occasions. Character development is well thought out and the plot has more twists and turns than a bobsled track!
This might be a good thing, it might not. Historically shows which try to be too clever create too many loose ends that never get addressed to satisfaction but so far the signs are good.
It will be disappointing if they end season 1 on a cliffhanger as it feels like it could handle self contained seasons.
Sadly this is another show that will be pirated due to stupid marketing decisions making it US only through HBO Max. As with other shows that are exclusive to one market it need serious funding (like the Mandalorian) or it will simply just fade away due to lack on viewers.
I will sadly not see this one until it becomes available on Netflix or regular HBO, and then it will probably not even show up on my radar anymore as the marketing buzz will have faded long before that. To bad, it seemed to be a decent series.
The two androids task is to raise human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and challenging task. Raised by Wolves first 3 episodes were amazing. Sci Fi at its best. The best way to encapsulate these first episodes without spoilers is very easy... Ridley Scott. So looking forward to the rest of the season.
Fantastic opening episode. Looking forward to more
This show is dope AF. If you want Ridley unleashed without executive/studio/franchise pressure then watch. If the thought of a story steeped in holy wars/crusades type imagery in space then watch. If you want a philosophical thinker then watch.
This is looking good! It would be nice if they're not going to milk the whole religious debate too much though. It's just unnescessary, the show can be great without it.

Great potential in premise, but falls flat on execution and ham-fisted application of ideological agendas. I'm sure it will please folks that are still trying to defend Prometheus in long internet rants. :-)
