They were immortalised forever as figures of amusement in TV’s ‘Dad’s Army’ but when Hitler’s troops prepared to invade our shores in 1940, the population of Britain slept easier knowing that the newly formed Home Guard were their eyes and ears. When they were finally disbanded in 1944, they were over 1,000,000 strong and trained to a professional standard. This DVD pays tribute to those men with stills, feature film footage, personal reminisces and archive recordings including manoeuvres, camouflage exercises, honours from Churchill, evacuation of children etc.
