Such an amazing job by everyone in the sound and music departments with this episode. Most of the time, when there's a diegetic live performance in a TV drama, the lip-syncing, studio-recorded results fail to sound anything like a real-life concert. Of course, that's understandable, given the difficulty of capturing live music sound on location while pressed for time and money. The low-key genius of the way Veronica and Archie's take on "Kids in America" is presented, though – its glossy, pre-fab sound feeling very much of a piece with the score and needle-drops in the rest of the episode – makes it a triumphant moment. My suspension of disbelief isn't toppled, it's strengthened.
