Ruby Gettinger, a lovable 487-pound woman from Savannah, Georgia, who has struggled with obesity her entire life. Ruby lives in a small two-bedroom house with her dogs, her nephew Jim and old friend Jeff. Together they share everything from laughs to a love of fattening Southern foods! But now Ruby's pals are realizing that they need to give her tough love in order to help her slim down.

After three months on a rigorous diet and exercise plan, Ruby is finally starting to see results and has already shed fifty pounds! Word of her weight loss has spread among friends and Ruby has recently been getting phone calls from her ex-boyfriend Denny who broke her heart six years ago when she was still struggling to lose weight.

Thanks to four months of strict diet and exercise, Ruby has lost 60 pounds! But she's growing sick and frustrated with her pre-packaged meals and she's feeling tempted to cheat on her diet, especially when she goes out to restaurants with her friends who gorge on pizza and other fattening foods right in front of her.

Ruby has become completely frustrated with her life, her diet and her training. She's hit a wall and is annoyed by everyone and everything! Although she has lost 60 pounds in almost four months, Ruby reveals she can't tell the difference in the mirror and it's making her unmotivated to continue losing weight.

California, here we come! Returning to Los Angeles where she lived for six years, Ruby must endure the challenges of travel for an obese person. Although she has lost over 65 pounds, she still has trouble fitting in the airplane seats and must put up with public humiliation in front of her friends.

Upon returning to Savannah from her trip to Los Angeles, Ruby is shocked to discover that she had gained back some of the seventy pounds she had lost over the last five months.

After six months of dieting and exercise, Ruby is down 90 pounds and she's ready to show off her slimmer figure to the world. When her best friend Brittany Daniel comes to town, she wants to spoil Ruby and take her shopping to give her a hot new look.

Now that Ruby has regained some of her mobility, she's ready to accomplish her goals. After years of hiding out in her house, Ruby is ready to experience the big outdoors and convinces her best friends Jeff and Georgia to go camping. But first they've got to purchase the supplies!

During a pilates class, Ruby becomes emotionally overwhelmed when a flashback is triggered from her childhood. Her instructor explains that the mind and body share a powerful connection and old memories that are stored away can become activated unexpectedly.

The time has come for Ruby and her girlfriends' annual weekend getaway! This year, the ladies are heading to Tybee Island, a beach island off the Georgia coast, for some fun in the sun.

So far Ruby has lost 140 pounds! She's made a lot of progress, but she is still struggling with staying on her program. Lately, she has been lacking in journaling her food intake and skipping some of her workouts with her trainers.

Ruby becomes an emotional wreck when her beloved dog Lucy becomes gravely ill. Lucy's kidneys are failing her and Ruby must give her daily injections to help them function. Ruby feels herself wanting to turn to food to help comfort her during this difficult time, but she knows she must learn how to cope with the pain in other ways.

Still grieving over the death of her dog Lucy, Ruby is feeling unmotivated to work out and stick to her weight loss program. She knows she needs to get re-energized, so when Dr. Bradley suggests she visit a summer weight loss camp for kids, she agrees to go.

Ruby turns to a new therapist to help understand her recurring nightmares.
