Russian Doll 2019

Holyshit! Listen, in this binge watching era of no cable, no commercials, I've watched my share of TV. You get your run of the mill, there's nothing to watch but you still watch to serve as background noise series (like that Drew Barrymore is a zombie series)... Well this is definitely not that type of series. I was at the edge of my seat desperately wanting to know WTF is going on and what's next. I'm glad this is a Netflix show for I couldn't bear waiting a week for the next episode.
The 7th episode was totally a WTF, how did we get here, dark type of episode. It was awesome! And the main protagonist was just so on point with her character (I don't recall where I've seen her before}...she totally pulled that NY asshole role so well. They all did...even Mike was such an on point sleazeball. I really enjoyed it. Even the end was tied off nicely. Bravo.

I love Natasha Lyonne so much.

This was a wild ride from start to finish. I loved every minute of this (even if it leaves with some questions like "I need to know!!")

loading replies

Wow, I almost gave up after episode 2. So glad I didn’t. This turned out to be a great series and a very clever take on this type of plot. Final episode is great.

i think for as many times as this concept has been made, this worked out wonderfully. i really enjoyed this series and the fact that you don't have to be 100% immersed in it at all times to still understand what's going on. a good lazy-watch that still fucked me up quite a lot.

So many questions unanswered. Like so many! The ending doesn't help either. Hopefully more seasons come.

There is too much hair on this show

Season 1 was OK, just. A bit off beat, some humour of sorts (though just smile humour really) and pretty well acted I thought. The 'Groundhog Day' re-start sequences in the first couple of episodes got tiresome, way too many and too often doing nothing other than wasting time. Trouble is, what story was actually there wasn't actually very interesting but I persevered to the end of season 1. Then onto season 2 and and I really couldn't see the point. Confusing and disjointed story line that has now split between the two main characters, neither being that interesting. It's almost as if they ran out of ideas for a season 2 and just threw this together, overall it seemed pretty pointless. Lost interest after episode 4 and binned it. I won't be watching a season 3! I'd probably give season 1 a 5-6 and season 2 a 1-2, hence the overall 4.

loading replies

You can skip season 2. It nonsensical & waste of time.

loading replies

The acting was fantastic throughout the show. The story and writing for the first season was pretty good, for the second season it was a disaster though.

loading replies

i lost it in season 2, nothing to achieve

loading replies

ok, that was SO good. i don't regret a single moment. it's just a unique show. in the beginning i wasn't so connected, but then i watched till the end and now i'm in love. i KNOW i'll be rewatching many many many times. natasha lyonne is just the right actress for this. great.

loading replies

Season 1 was great. I'm not sure how a second season would go. You'll have to watch to understand. If you are looking for what could be a cult classic, this is it. A second season might ruin that, but I don't know. Season 1 by itself would always be classic.

(At the time I watched, yes they had announced a second season, so I knew that going in. It would be interesting to see if anyone watching the whole first season after the announcement agrees with me k

Great show, I like it, so many thoughts triggered especially the ones about life and death. One thing they didn't explain enough on the show is the fact of people and things that kept disappearing and reappearing, especially the ring and the fish, it didn't make any sense to me according to the show's logic, but still a great show and I enjoyed it.

loading replies

Fantastic show! Starts relatively light only to grow darker. Natascha Lyonne is amazing in this.

loading replies

Really great show.

Get through the first 2 episodes ... it’s not just another goofy Groundhog Day comedy show. More like "Edge of Tomorrow" with a twisty hint of "The Voices".

Funny, sad and heartbreaking with great acting and so many great moments.

loading replies

Boring shit, gave it up after 2nd episode.

To @TwiztidJuggla420 - Yeah, I "spoiled it for you" by basically stating what the PROGRAM DESCRIPTION said, albeit in a more colorful way. Yeah..., and I'm the "ignorant" one. At least you had the good sense to delete your nasty remarks.

Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black, American Pie) is trapped in a Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadooloop until she learns to swim, and catches the rhythm of the strokes..... COMPLETELY clichéd, but oddly watchable, if only for the creative ways she keeps managing to off herself, in spite of desperately trying not to.

stop the gender/sexual talking shit and start dying :-D shows these days. no one's tolerant toward a straight white guy anymore? I didn't choose that either :-D

loading replies

I mean, if I didn't watch OITNB then I would have thought that Natasha Lyonne had a great character but this seemed exactly like her crackhead character Nicky. I was almost thinking Nicky was finally released from prison and living the good life in NYC.

loading replies

Ah, it was okay. Not the best but not the worst.

The best way to describe this series is - boring and utterly annoying. The characters are pretentious and silly, not in a funny way of silly but in a more "fuck, I would punch that in the face" kind of silly. Shitty finale and all. Omg, I wish I didn't have the OCD which makes me finish every book, movie or series once I've started watching them. This was an utter waste of time. Can't understand why all the critics are jumping on the bandwagon claiming this is a good series and shit.

I was surprised that this was picked up for a second season. The first stood alone on its own incredibly well and the plot did not help itself to span multiple seasons. The second was a notable step backwards, but it was still decent. This one is short enough that you really should check it out if it sounds remotely interesting!

Average Season Review: 8/10

Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Mental Thriller Fans)

Season 1 was right up my alley, good humor. Season 2 went a bit off the rails and I feel it wasnt really 'needed', but I still enjoyed it :)

loading replies

I love Nadia and I love Natasha that is all

:heart:x7
I'm only thru season one so far - but it is fun to watch the Nadya character working her way thru re-living life after death again and again and again....
Can't wait to watch season 2.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

I really enjoyed this. It does a good job of keeping one's interest while showcasing Natasha Lyonne's considerable acting skills. I highly recommend giving this a view and see for yourself.

loading replies

i am very gay for natasha lyonne

loading replies

Season 1 rocks but don't watch the second season.

loading replies

I couldn't stop watching, Natasha Lyonne is amazing and was perfect for her role.

loading replies

Simply a treat. I was so sure that the first season was so self-contained that I wrinkled my nose a bit at the prospect of a second season, but I'm fully on-board for as many seasons as they want at this point.

loading replies

This show at least in its first season really surprised me it was full of funny, heartfelt and interesting moments and kept me engaged I would definitely recommend it.

However the second season is terrible and adds almost nothing to the show skip that one I wouldn't recommend that to my worst enemy.

loading replies

It was amazing, touching, loved every bit!

[Netflix] A story that has more potential because of what lies in the background than what is shown on the surface. But, even having been mesmerized by S1, there's a sense that S2 is unnecessary, although swapping groundhog day for time travel is a good idea to escape repetition. There is a reflection on the impotence in the face of destiny, but unfortunately it loses the focus of interesting characters as Alan.

loading replies

This is a strange show. I hate every single character in it. They are all so annoying. But I do enjoy the story and the time travel aspect.

loading replies

After having now seen the second season I've moved my rating down to a four because, even though I enjoyed my time watching Russian doll it is very confusing and becomes slightly respective. I had to continuously work out what was going on and it made it no fun for me. The acting was fine, at least from the principal cast but most of the narrative didn't leave me wanting more. Not sure if this will renew for a third season but I don't think it should.

loading replies

The funniest thing was she plays a 36 year old. She looks closer to 56 :joy: other than that it was enjoyable, we got to the end.

loading replies

This was ok but became very repetitive and I was a bit bored later on in the season.

loading replies

Absolutely amazing show, very unique story. Love it!

loading replies

Russian Doll is a pretty weird show in the vibe of Groundhog Day that comes off as a bit off-putting in the first couple of episodes, but seems to really grow on you as it progresses - especially with the introduction of Alan. Both Nadia and Alan are very strange characters that don't seem to be particularly likeable at first. However, as the story progresses (or rather, resets again and again) and eventually concludes, they both grow and become better people. The ending of S1 is somewhat of a conclusion, but intriguing enough to leave space for another season.

I watched this based on the trailer/preview -it looked really funny. Oh my - it was mind-numbingly awful. We didn't laugh once during the first episode and couldn't wait for this drivel to be over. If this show constitutes funny, then heaven help everyone with a sense of humour. I can't give it a 0/10, so I have to give it a 1. One word can sum it up - $hite.

nadia gives a good middle finger.

loading replies

Weird, and progressively weirder as the season went on. Do I regret watching it? Yea, for the most part. Not caring about any of the characters except Alan probably makes then even more true. Don't care if there's a season 2, this felt like after episode 5 they spitballed the whole script.

loading replies

Natasha Lyonne is superb, there is no other actress who could have done better. The series hooks from the first chapter, gradually evolving to a final climax worthy of film. The addition of new characters throughout the series brings freshness. The technical direction and scripts are the best. I don't know what a new season can offer but I look forward to it.

loading replies

I mean, I do like that Harry Nilsson song.

loading replies

Do I regret watching it? No. Would I watch it again? No.

The idea is super interesting and it felt like an original take a well known trope. It got progressively weirder and weirder and suddenly turned from a drama to a horror show? The main character was kind of annoying, but I kept watching to see what would happen next.

This was quite a weird show.

It is entertaining for the most part, but its a bit annoying, that they change the rules toward the end, just so they can show how it can be determined if they are back to the "normal" timestream.

It also would have been nice to be offered some kind of explanation to the question: Why them?

I mean, there are probably hundreds of people every day who could prevent someone from dieing. So why the protagonists and not someone else? What sets them apart?

loading replies

REFRESHING!!!! I highly recomend it.

loading replies

The only interesting thing about this show is the redhead character. Otherwise it's a complete mess. Not to mention that awful song repeated over and over and over and.. At least they had got right the logic about multiple realities. Until the finale. Which made little sense to me.

loading replies

Are we thinking Nicky before she was sent to prison or after she was released? I'm going for the former
