41x02 Amy Schumer with The Weeknd

Superb episode, possibly the best one with this cast. I have to admit, I've only seen a handful of sketches from Amy Schumer's show (plus her 12 Angry Men parody), and found them on-point enough, but not particularly funny. But she cracked me up tonight, bringing lots of energy and fully-formed character performances to all of her sketches. I especially liked her stand-up intro, which showed a winning and charming personality that hadn't come through in other things I'd seen her in. In terms of the sketches:

• I'm pretty tired of the Fox & Friends sketch; not a lot of juice left in those same jokes.
• The flight attendant sketch was dark and ridiculous. Lots of fun.
• The porn sketch was amusing. Dependable comic premise to take the heightened reality of something like a porn film and inject it with down-to-earth mundane stuff like a guileless student actually asking for help.
• The fake guns commercial was a nice little swerve, and the sketch was pointed without being overly overt about it.
• Weekend update had some rough parts (Jay Pharoh's character was lame), but the one-liners and chemistry between the anchors improved as it went on, and Kate McKinnon's Mrs. Santini character was great. Still not a dependable part of the show, but they're improving.
• The boorish Mary Todd Lincoln actress sketch was kind of middling and boisterous, but had its moments.
• The hands free selfie stick was puerile but short and punchy enough to work
• The Community forum sketch was mixed bag, but everything was so rapid fire that it worked, especially Schumer's zealous six-year-old character.
• The baby shower sketch was the only true clunker of the evening. That thing went nowhere.

There was lots of Kyle Mooney which was a bit out of the ordinary. Regardless, one of the best hosting stints with the current cast this side of Martin Freeman.
