With Wes Craven's recent passing this show can't be considered a honor to his work. Luckily he didn't do much else than let them use his name for the show.

You can't do a slasher movie as a TV series.

The above is an actual quote from a character in this show which certainly applies here. There is little "slasher" in this show! Instead they took some basic ideas from the genre and paired it with Pretty Little Liars whose fans also seem to be the target audience.
No one does a decent job acting, the dialogue is often cringey, the story sucks and they make absolute no use of the runtime to build the characters or go past the cliché. They even had the balls to go for a second season.

For anyone who liked the movies and thinks that the TV series is the logical continuation you have to watch: don't do it.

I just don't see this working as a TV show. I can see it dragging on and being really dumb. Just feels like a typical MTV teen drama with a few murders thrown in.

loading replies

Season 3 is really cringey, illogical and a bit obvious, the characters are hard to connect with and the story moves too fast, you learn about a character and then they immediately die making the things you learned pointless and makes sympathising or empathising with a character difficult since it's just come out of nowhere and then ends there too. Also I know race issues are prevalent in current society, but I think it comes up too much unnecessarily. The characters just feel poorly written. The ending is weird too, feels like in the end none of it really mattered or had a logical reason to happen. (I know the movie was kind of like that, but they at least tried to justify it in a somewhat logical way).

I'm kind of disappointed, but not surprised. It sucks if that's the last we'll see of the series, especially since the first 2 seasons weren't too bad.

Scream tries to rescue all that suspense from the golden age teen horror movies, but fails miserably, with a super predictable script that in the first episodes scrubs in the face the identity of the killer (indirectly), soon after you already know who Is the Serial Killer series still tries to create a whole mystery between the characters (this you already knowing who the killer is). Taking the (friendly) relationship between Audrey and Noah, the rest of the characters do not have a good chemistry, the relationship between them is painless, as are the dialogues and performances (which are worse than Kristen Stewart's in that movie you already Knows), and to complete, all the characters are underdeveloped and linear, without even a shallow depth, not to mention that they are super stereotyped, like: Emma is the exemplary girl, Audrey the lesbian rebel, Noah is the nerd knows everything, Kieran Is the heartthrob, Brooke is the bitch and Gustavo is the class asshole! Spare me, the series is so clichéd and predictable and with such a disappointing ending it leaves Lost in the slipper!

[spoiler]This show is dumb as ****. Bodies are dropping everywhere and they are kids and like four kids in the same school got murdered and brutally but they still have school and the main character who is obviously the center of it all is not under constant police surveillance. This is the dumbest show I've ever watched

And again US high-schoolers are in their mid-20 ;)

You will not be disappointed. It's a shame that there isn't an "end episode".

This is honestly so horrible. A classic slasher movie turned into a Pretty-Little-Liars-like tv show. It is so angering!! Most of the audience is also a bunch of young teens who additionally probably also watch tv shows like Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, Riverdale, Supernatural, etc. Wes Craven's work was legendary, and to have a Scream spin off this bad is just so irritating. The actors are fucking terrible, and the serial killers were so easily predicted and horribly portrayed. The serial killers' acting were cringe worthy and more comical then thrilling.. HAH!

So at least the deaths are creative and interesting to watch. That being said, everythingelse about this show isn't worth it. The characters are cardboard, the plot is just as flat. It's something to watch when you want to have something in the background but don't really care to give it your full attention.

Plot has a few inconsistencies, don't know if they are actual mistakes or material for season 2. I couldn't get enough of season 1, waiting for season 2!

Do not kill noah in season 3

The first season is kind of boring.
But the second season is surprising me. In a good way.

Loved Season 1-2. Season 3 is just awfull... Why suddenly a different cast and story?? I hate the open ending from the first story

Brilliant. This tv show is actually better than the movies…

This was a solid show. While the first two seasons weren't the traditional Ghostface, this adaptation was good (not great) for tv. When they picked up the show for Season 3 I was excited and binged it as soon as possible, and to my surprise the traditional Ghostface returned! I anxiously awaited Season 4, but it seemingly got the axe due to Covid. Anyways, if you like the movies, check out the show. It managed to scratch my itch for Scream and I think most fans would agree.

Average Season Review: 7.83/10

Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Slasher Horror Fans)

Okay, this show is undoubtedly has many problems, just finished Season 1, and the thing that gets me the most is the script thinks its way too clever for it's own good! Especially with the character of Noah who thinks he's bloody hilarious with every line he delivers, it just comes across as cringy and resulted in me actually not being able to stand his character ha! And of course some of the acting is down right awful. BUT saying that, I was still invested in some of the characters and was curious to see who the person behind the mask was, enough to keep on watching. Despite the actual ending itself being slightly anticlimactic I'll be coming back to see what they do with Season 2, a guilty pleasure show for sure. 6.7/10

Amazing show. I hope that season 2 can be great like the season 1. Lakewood <3

I think this quote from the show itself sums everything up quite nicely:
"You can't do a slasher movie as a TV series. Slasher movies burn bright and fast. TV needs to stretch things out. You know, by the time the first body's found, it's only a matter of time before the bloodbath commences."

Has more mystery and teen drama than it does horror. Season 2 needs way more scares. The entire 2nd season needs to be as good as the season 1 finale.

Noah was the only good thing about this show. What a shame.

I keep hoping that the acting and writing will improve each episode but it never does. Will finish the season to give it a fair shot but not expecting greatness to appear.

Update - Finished the season and no improvement. That's a solid miss for me.

I am greatly disappointed. I found the pilot to be funny and moderately intriguing, so I went on.
It had me guessing about who is the killer, naturally forcing you to the wrong options, but the end was so disappointing. So many plot holes, so many things unanswered, so many things that just don't make sense.
I'm just really sad that every "mystery" TV show has to be this bad in consistency. It's not as bad and frustrating as Pretty Little Liars, but I think given enough seasons we'll get there.

Show is staying true to the movies for the most part.
The last episode was a nice setup to the season finale and surely the best so far.

BUT the (well expected) teen drama and some cringeworthy acting along with the lack of character depth won't help me rate this show with more than 7/10.
