Wonderful from start to finish. It's an amazing story that definitely deserves (and should) be told and Octavia Spencer is phenomenal as always. The only thing I didn't love were some of the modern music choices but everything else is superb.

interesting story and brilliant performances by octavia spencer and blair underwood. some strange editing choices and issues with the pacing, but overall it’s ok.

A fascinating look into the life of Madam C. J. Walker, who is played exquisitely by Octavia Spencer. It may only last four rather short episodes, but Spencer is simply brilliant in the role. Tiffany Haddish (Lelia) and Blair Underwood (Charles) give very fine performances, too. It's paced well, edited nicely and impressively acted.

There are a few issues, for one parts of the set design, most notably across the first two episodes, don't quite look right to me for the era it's portraying. That's nothing major, though the apparent fictionalisation of some stories is a shame; especially regarding Addie Munroe (Carmen Ejogo). In that regard, I can understand the negative feelings A'Lelia Bundles (who wrote the biography that this is based on) has. However, I can't deny it does work for television. Most film and TV about real life people change facts, unfortunately.

With all that noted, it's still worth watching!

Beautiful and inspirational story. Madam was such a strong and clever woman and I don't know how the fuck I didn't know her. Now, that's a show I would reccomend to everyone, especially the ladies.
