I loved all of the references to the original works and past episodes. I think that the implementation, however, was a little rough. It didn't focus on telling one thing, but many fractured things, which took away from the storytelling. In fact, it was like the episode itself was suffering from a drug induced state, not just one of the characters. While it was still a good episode, but it wasn't the same quality as the normal season's episodes.

Half of the show (the actual Abominable Bride plot) was amazing. Best Sherlock storytelling i've ever experienced. Superb atmosphere. The other half was rubbish. Sherlock on drugs, jumping from the past to the future, not making any sence. Feels like they had to fill up 90 minutes with Sherlock stuff, but couldn't manage to pull it off with the original plot. 7/10 for the overall result, which is a pity since at times it reached that rare 11/10 masterpiece level.

I love how the episode switched between the current storyline and the old murder case. Especially loved how it all connected back to Moriarty.

Well, this was disappointing. Far too convoluted and went nowhere.

In the beginning I was like "What is going on?!?!?!?!" and by the end I was going "Give me more...NOW!".

I was about to skip this and watch the 4x01 episode cause I thought this was completely unrelated to the timeline, I’m so glad I didn’t! Even tho it took me an hour to realize the similarities between the abominable bride and Moriarty. Whatever way he is back, I’m glad! He was such an interesting villain and I wanna see more of him.
Why was Mycroft so fat tho???? Is that a thing from the stories or what was going on??

As always, the quality of the episode was delicate, very good indeed. I'm almost crying because I must wait for the next season to come, I wish I had more of Sherlock. But this special was worth waiting for. The plot was great, and they mixed the past and present quite good too.

The drug part, I don't think it was completely necessary. But it worked. The cuts, and the past, and present scenes mixing, those were great because of their "effect." So, yep. It was a pretty solid episode, but it's lack of plot twists and real puzzles made me miss the actual season.

Still, I'm glad we got Shelock for an hour and a half. I missed him.

The parts set in proper 1895 Sherlock Holmes time were fun. The convoluted future-melding-into-the-fake-past-due-to-Sherlock-being-on-drugs parts were dumb and unnecessary.

I have always wondered what goes through Sherlock's mind when he goes on a bender...

What was this? Very confusing. Fun for during Christmas though.

I really can't decide whether I love or not. Those twists... the most baroque show ever has looped the loop once more. You really can't be sure it's a brilliance or just a storytelling with no respect for narrative and credibility boundaries.

So, was this a special or the first episode for season 4?
