Aber schon bald taucht Bernie bei Hajo zu Hause auf, dicht gefolgt von seinem Bruder Jürgen, der Bernie zur Flucht verholfen hat. Hajo lässt die beiden unterschlüpfen, zumal ihn Bernie auf die Spur eines Abrechungsbetruges in der Klinik bringt. Gegen Jans Rat ermittelt Hajo nur in dieser Richtung, was sich jedoch schnell als falsche Spur erweist. Als Bernie aufgrund nicht eingenommener Medikamente ausrastet und sich herausstellt, dass Jürgen sich in der Tatnacht heftig mit Renner gestritten hat, befürchtet auch Hajo, dass die Brüder dieses Mal schuldig sind. Da stoßen Ina und Patrick auf neue Fakten, die dem Fall eine überraschende Wendung geben.
