2012x02 Stand Up for Sport Relief

  • 2012-03-20T19:00:00Z1m

Sports personalities Michael Vaughan, Ben Cohen, Gabby Logan, Tyson Fury and Neil Ruddock face their toughest challenge to date - performing a stand-up comedy set to a packed audience. Each is paired with a top stand-up in Patrick Kielty, Jason Manford, Andi Osho, Chris Ramsy and Dan Sloss, but with less than two weeks to get a set together, it is not just the sports stars who have a challenge on their hands.

On 22 January 2012, Blue Peter's Helen Skelton completed an epic 500-mile trek to the South Pole for Sport Relief, using three modes of transport: kite skiing, cross country skis, and - in a world first - by bike. This is the story of how she made that gruelling journey, experiencing temperatures twice below that of a household fridge freezer. As well as dealing with temperatures of -36 degrees, she had to battle with blisters, not washing for weeks on end, and a cough that threatened to give her pneumonia.

John Bishop takes the word 'triathlon' to new heights in an extraordinary physical and mental challenge for Sport Relief. John cycles, rows and runs from Paris to London, accompanied by celebrity supporters like Davina McCall, Chris Moyles, Freddie Flintoff, Dermot O'Leary and Frank Skinner. This incredible challenge pushes John to his limits, and the only way he keeps going is remembering why he is doing it in the first place - to raise money for Sport Relief. John visits Sierra Leone to see the incredible work done by Sport Relief, and learns how vaccines that we all take for granted in the UK can save lives. This intimate and honest documentary captures the laughter and the tears as John battles with intense pain and exhaustion in his determination to succeed.

Throughout the night, there will be a look into how money raised through Sport Relief can help vulnerable people in the UK and across the world live happier, healthier, safer lives, through several appeal films with a special focus this year on maternal health, malaria and mental health.

2018x02 Sport Relief 2018 - Part 2

  • 2018-03-23T19:00:00Z1m

Davina McCall joins Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff as Sport Relief 2018 reaches its conclusion. There are two more big Celebrity Boxing bouts and the climax of the non-stop football marathon, with Robbie Savage's All Stars completing 12 hours of play against teams from the FA People's Cup. There is also the climax to A Question of Sport Relief and live music from Rae Morris. Plus a special edition of Pop Star Penalties from A League of Their Own, and more from John Bishop and the England team.

Sue Barker hosts a very special Sport Relief edition of the popular quiz programme. Comedian Frank Skinner captains the Sport Relief All-Stars alongside Ed Balls and Paddy McGuinness. And for one night only they take on regular captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell and their guest captain Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis. There are five fun-filled rounds which include Move Your (Ed) Balls, Name That Tune with The Beatbox Collective and a special mystery guest round. We also see how money raised through Sport Relief is split 50/50 between projects in the UK and across the rest of the world.

Documenting an inspiring charity challenge, TV presenter Zoe Ball attempts to cycle over 300 miles, all to raise awareness about mental health and raise money for Sport Relief.

Comedian John Bishop tries to help coach Gareth Southgate and the England football team with their preparations for this summer’s World Cup finals by taking them back to the spirit of 1966 with comical consequences. They are joined by a host of stars in cameo roles.

Famously Unfit for Sport Relief follows entertainer Les Dennis, presenter Susannah Constantine, actress Tameka Empson and comedian Miles Jupp as they embark on a muscle-grinding mission to regain their fitness, while trying to inspire the British public to do the same and get active for Sport Relief. Over the course of ten weeks, the foursome run, climb and swim their way back to fitness, culminating in one of the UK's hardest and most demanding physical challenges, a muddy and exhausting assault course in freezing temperatures. The four team members have all acknowledged their personal struggles to keep in shape. As well as fighting their own personal battle, they test the latest science which suggests getting fit in a group is much easier than doing it on your own. Helping them on their way are former Olympian and sports scientist Professor Greg Whyte OBE and Trust Me, I'm A Doctor's Dr Zoe Williams. The show also features visits to two Sport Relief-funded projects in the UK. These projects are just some of the ways in which money raised through Sport Relief helps vulnerable people in the UK and across world to live happier and healthier lives.

Join Sport Relief host Paddy McGuinness on his travels as he walks, jogs and rows from his home to the Sport Relief studio in Salford. In this hour-long special, Paddy gets viewers pumped and ready for the big night of TV with exclusive previews of Sport Relief 2018 must-see moments and a look back at some of the best bits of Sport Relief gone by, all accompanied by funny challenges, celebrity appearances and fundraising films showing just how hard people work to raise money for such a wonderful cause.

Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas is a former British Lions captain, who represented Wales at both Union and Rugby League and broke 40 bones during his playing career. He was also the first professional rugby player to publicly announce that he was gay and has proven himself in sport and in life to be totally fearless. Except for one thing. He is terrified of heights. Any heights. The hard man of the rugby field can't even a climb step ladder without being crippled by anxiety. And he hates flying too. But for Sport Relief this year he will face that fear by agreeing to take part in a very special parachute jump. He will take to the air with a team of skydiving OAPs - each of them first-time jumpers and everyone of them committed to showing that age and fear is no barrier to taking on a challenge. Their coach is 85-year-old Welsh wonder Dilys Price, the world's oldest female skydiver, and its her job to get Gareth to conquer his fears - coaxing him through ever more terrifying height challenges and ultimately the big jump itself. Meanwhile, his new teammates give him an insight into their lives and how growing old can be the biggest challenge of all.

Comedian Des Clarke cannot swim, cannot drive and cannot ride a bicycle - but for Sport Relief he is going to try to do all these things and compete in three very special Tryathlons. Joined by a team of celebrity supporters, including Sir Chris Hoy and Strictly Come Dancing's Susan Calman and Joe McFadden - Des travels to Scotland, and amongst his many challenges attempts to swim Loch Ness, cycle the Forth Bridge and drive to the top of a mountain with Top Gear's Rory Reid. No easy tasks for a man who can't swim, cycle or drive. Will Des Clarke complete his challenges? Will he conquer his fears?
