This was a great episode, it reminded me of Strange New Worlds where M'benga has awful painful experiences in the Klingon war, in that nobody can understand another's pain except the person that experienced it. In this episode though, the writers handled it gracefully, with Julian being there for his friend while not pretending to understand. The only quibble is that the writers didn't take advantage of the episodic nature of DS9 to refer back to this experience in some episodes that followed, instead Miles is fine in the next episode, a missed opportunity.
