Great episode although if this is the last we see of Georgiou then I think it was a bit premature. Having her be "anatomically reset" by some temporal being makes sense as an end point for her character since she's not from the same universe as the rest of the Prime crew, but I feel they could have played a longer game with her degeneration if we're never going to see the wonderful Michelle Yeoh in Discovery again. Her illness was distinct from the main storyline so arguably had no need to be resolved already. That all said, I wouldn't be surprised if she does return at some point later on in the show, especially if her character has been popular and wasn't deliberately written out at Yeoh's request (a possibility if she wanted to move on to other things).
I thought the preview for next episode looked great and a promising up-swing for the end run of this season.
Better than the first part, but there really is no other plot or progress in the series, but emotional breakdowns.
Earth: Abandoned all their values because of emotions.
The Vulkans in their T'Kal-in-ket: Emotions over facts
And now they also broke "The Imperator" from the mirror universe, the anti-emotional bulwark.
I can't wait for them to bend scientific laws next, with their emotions.
Bye Emperor Georgiou. I won't watch your spinoff show.
The promise of Season 3 had been that for the first time since Deep Space Nine (and Picard recently) we could have high stakes storylines that have meaningful consequences. We appeared to be making progress on this, and uncovering genuinely new and different storylines. Terra Firma felt like a huge step backwards.
This overly cheesy, two episode filler chapter is the worst of the series so far. The only positive about it is it marks the (apparent) end of Phillippa Georgiou–arguably the tackiest, most shoe-horned character ever seen in Star Trek media.
Is it me or Sonequa Martin Green can’t act at all? I’ve first seen her in “The walking dead” years ago and I couldn’t stand her. As an heroine wannabe in this show she is pathetic. As a villan in this episode she was just pretending to look like a psychopath. And in all three cases she felt fake, plastic.
Nonetheless, to make things even worse, she (as Michael) gets constantly praised. For what?? For always crying a river?? Michael isn’t Captain Kirk for God’s sake! And don’t make me starting about her ruining Spock’s reputation!
Hopefully the series will end revealing that this all happened in a parallel reality, or better, in a nightmare, with Spock waking up all sweating and shaking from the horror of having such a dumb sister.
2 Huggies! May the Tears Boldly Flow
Is angry Michael a parody of crying Michael?
Once again, Discovery hits the spot for me, all in the subtleties of the (now) human Gorgiou trying to impose her will of steel to veer her barbarian, inhuman home universe towards the aspiration of humanity and greatness she came to discover and enjoy in USS Discovery's universe.
The universe travelling stuff limits exploring the depth of that situation... how I'd love to see an adaptation* of the skolian saga with Jaibriol III in that exact same situation!
(*well not so much adaptation as an extension of the skolian saga!)
Wow, there is some really bad acting in this episode.
Hmpf, the Emperors solution is great:
Let someone from the conspiracy kill the conspirators without letting them know whom you know about.
They will most likely kill traitors you don't even know about to save themselves (especially in an empire focused on individualism as extreme as the Terran Empire). Otherwise you will always have a few traitors your spies didn't find remain and rebuild. (In general - in this case it didn't really work since Michael seemingly can read thoughts and knows who the Emperor knows about...)
Giving your subjects something "to live for" also makes sense. You can limit the positions they can reach without fear of revolution, but the general ability to climb will make it, so they fight among themselves for positions instead of uniting against you (I think the ability to self-govern to a certain degree might have been the reason the roman empire rarely had rebellions given the size of the empire compared to the methods of control available).
If cunning was her motivation this would be great, sadly it doesn't seem to be.
The end leaves me confused - wasn't Yeoh confirmed for the Section 31 show?
The Universes weren't alligned at first contact as we know from ENT and Section 31 was created to protect the Federation as we know from DS9...
I really wish I could drop this Show without having the feeling to lack knowledge for future show references (still haven't given up hope for the entire franchise) as the Emperor was the last remaining interesting character left...
All of this being said, this was the first Arc (this and the last episode) that didn't cause any form of rage over stupid inconsistencies.
A double chapter to get to this, what a shit
More interesting than the rest of the season… but still pointless filler. Georgiou is an especially uninteresting character, so I really don't give a shit what happens to her. Meanwhile the season continues to drag on endlessly about this stupid burn shit which will inevitably be a disappointing reveal anyway.
Nice touch with the alternate title sequence though.
Sonequa overacts in every scene, and mirror universe Burnham just takes that up to 11. It's so goddamn awkward to watch her on screen.
Right after I stopped crying, well, the last time I cried, I realized the Doomcock army would not be so satisfied. (not to throw shade, I love and respect Doomcock, even if I disagree at times).
But, really, when has good Science Fiction NOT been about relationships? Sure they may not dwell, wallow, whatever, as much, but for a loss such as this loud noise is due.
Do you respect more the funeral with keening, or quiet bowed heads?
And, personally, just like Bond Girls, all Babes ever on Star Trek deserve immortal respect, and we have been lucky to have had Michelle Freakin' Yeoh (Hong Kong Cinema Royalty...Crouching Tiger, Police Story, etc).
Show budget:
Special effects - 5%
Acting Talent - 10%
Gold Plating - 30%
Eyeliner -55%
Good episode, it was a nice ending to part 1.
I had to say good job for the attention of details of the opening!
But seriously why not instead they killed Michael's character, and left Philippa alive. This show should have been called Star Trek Michael
8/10
Wow what an Awesome episode and I really love how this amazing show brings the emotional investment every single episode, and it's a credit to the Actresses and Actors for bringing it each and every episode, they really make each and every episode come alive.
So these two amazing episodes were to set up
Star Trek section 31
That's coming out in 2023
With philippa in the lead role, oh I'm all in for that when it hits Paramount+
Next year. That being said I'm going to miss her very much for now and I'm glad Michael has Book Suru and the rest of her Crew to help her through the loss.
This episode was frickin Awesome and I loved the ending as we Celebrated Phillipa, I joined in myself with the rest of the Crew.
Suru as Captain hm
Am watching him and so is the Admiral.
That being Said I have one very important question:
When Are We Going To Get
Michael InTo That Big
Chair.
I wonder how the actors felt about playing their roles in the Terran mirror universe (could be fun and/or interesting but for me it would probably be annoying as I don't like the setting and find it pretty stupid + it must be at least somewhat weird).
I liked Carl's troll line though: "See? That's what you do with doors. You pass though. You really gotta get yourself up to speed with modern technology.
But I hope we won't see (much) more of him ("I am the Guardian of Forever."). I'm only familiar with the newer Star Trek movies and TV shows but IMO he doesn't really fit in (plus I'd like to keep time travel and parallel universes out of Star Trek). Carl's more like a character from "Legends of Tomorrow".
I too was uncertain about part 1, it seemed rudderless... but part 2 managed to redeem this storyline. Loved it, even knowing that it's a set up for the Section 31 series to come. The throwback to TOS "City on the Edge of Forever" is also delightful.
was this a prequel for the section 31 show?

I was worried after the sharp turn last week's episode took, but this was MUCH better. Although, I really wanted to see exactly when/where Georgiou ended up.
