Jesus. How many episodes is it going to take to resolve one battle - between two ships??
Since when are federation ships so dark? I don’t like the dark bridge. In fact all scenes would benefit from more lighting.
Even if scanners are not working in the nebula, why does that effect the visuals on the bridge main screen?
Picards son looks and acts more like he is Kirks son.
I'm going to go out on a limb and call this a "filler" episode, in that it was pretty much "a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying NOTHING!" Bff's Picard and Riker turning on each other under pressure, Baby Momma Crusher and baby Daddy Picard both reminiscing and arguing over who zoomed who cuz she forgot her pill and the rubber must have had a hole in it.
Meanwhile Captain starchy pants gets a bump on the noggin and skins his knee, so, he turns over command in the midst of battle so he can go lick his wounds (and not get blamed for what misfortunes will soon befall them all) while Snidely "honey bunny" Vadic chair vouges, still smoking a blunt, which prolly explains her now offing a whole starship when before she just wanted Lil Crusher. Elsewhere, Worf, wearing his best Wednesday beheading outfit, fresh from offing a whole slew of baddies, including separating one obnoxious Ferengi from his noggin, cleans up his Bat'leth, then, does a bit of Pilates, and shows their prisoner his kinder gentler side, while Raffi plays dope-man until its revealed that all's not fair in love and goop.
Geez, the only person who stuck anywhere close to character was Seven, and she had to unconfine herself from quarters which means she's probably in MORE trouble once Captain Starchy Pants gets a band-aid on his boo boo, provided they indeed survive the present calamity.
OK, who else thought it was somehow Lore for half a second?
Rant over...., stay tuned.
Another strong episode that balanced fun with some great emotional material. I think Worf might be stealing the show already at this point, and the Picard/Beverly discussion was simply fantastic with both actors really giving their all.
I really wasn't expecting the Changeling reveal, and I have to say that it was an extremely pleasant surprise. It's got me wondering if Riker might not be himself.
It's not all perfect - spending an entire two episodes now on a single encounter is feeling slightly tiresome, and the back and forth nature of the Picard/Riker argument was really pushing things by the end of the episode (which also gives me further fuel for the above spoiler). Part of me wanted to scream to get on with things and move the story forward, but the other part of me was delighting in just hanging out with the characters. Jeri Ryan is doing great work here even with the limited screen time in this one.
The fact that I'm very eager for more at the end of each episode is a sign that it's doing things right, but it's also very hard to judge what the overall season arc is going for right now. I feel like I know nothing about what's going on.
The de-aging effects for Picard and Riker weren't great.
Can’t hold back any longer. Picard was supposed to make the right judgement calls in all cases. That is what I grew up with. Now it’s “because he’s my son”??? Are we just gonna pretend that’s totally okay, risk the lives of “500” crew for his son? Earlier, Riker makes completely out of touch “joke” about “Crash LaForge”? The nebula looks like cartoon special effects, I can create better with MidJourney.
This is a bad joke of a show, I’m so disappointed. I grew up on Trek and I’m disillusioned. There are so many much, much better SciFi shows up there, including the stellar one that was tragically cancelled after season 6.
P.S. The kid is more of a match for being Kirk’s kid than Picard’s.
This is not a great episode. But I guess it's needed to drive the story forward. Call it a filler or bridge episode if you like.
We get some bombastic battle scenes so that we don't forget that there's still a looming threat (but also to cover that this episode is only a bridge episode). Like in all these new shows they clearly had too much money and too much computing power for CGI at their hand. It's all too bombastic to my liking. Once, this franchise was also about calmly travelling through space, exploring and experiencing the wonders of natural phenomena. Not any more! And that's sad. Plus, isn't there a video game that already did this portal thing? And the drama between Picard and Riker is not credible. They maybe argue but they would never argue like that in front of the crew. That's not the Picard I know.
We learn more about the Beverly and Picard story. That was emotional. It makes sense what Beverly says. I don't understand why Picard is so aggravated though. He's almost hostile to her and his son. I understand that he is shocked but he could be more supportive. I mean, he once loved Beverly. She is the mother of his son. She made this decision twenty years ago. Obviously that wasn't an easy decision to make and she surely wanted the best for their son. This is not the composed Captain i know from TNG! I also still don't understand why Beverly and her son do what they do though (What exactly do they do? Are they benevolent smugglers?) and why the other ship is really chasing them. Couldn't they just tell? I mean they know the real reason, don't they? Why is nobody pressing them to tell the true reasons? It's probably not because they didn't pay their bills or stole some random items from gangsters. Obviously, there must be a much more important reason. Like in season 2, writers again choose to use such mysteries to build tension. That complicates things, drags out the story and is annoying.
And we get more of the Raffi story. So far, this story is mediocre. Don't really understand where this is going. At this point it seems that they wanted to add another plotline to the story just because that's what you do in contemporary TV right? Plus, they wanted to introduce another fan favorite: Worf (another check mark checked. Who's next? Quark?) But at this point it's totally disconnected from the other plot. I bet the plot lines will converge at some point but until then I don't see the relevance and that's why I think that this story part could have been skipped.
It may be a filler episode but they add yet another element to this season: Odo's friends. Not sure how I feel about that. This show, especially last season, tends to juggle with too many story lines and ideas already. Not sure how they will ever be able to connect this show with the complex (and brilliant) story told in DS9. They probably won't even try. I guess it's just another checkmark on their fans' favorites list. Fans like Changelings? We'll give them Changelings!
PS: I like Worf's "full title". He's become a composed and wise Klingon warrior legend. Good. That's what I always wished for him.
Definitely ramping up with the big bad reveal!
Took me a hot minute to recognise Thomas Dekker there, and even then I kept doubting myself. Don't think I've seen him on screen since Sarah Connor Chronicles!
This is still all about Seven for me though. Loved the lil model Voyager in her quarters :hearts:
Not without flaws, specifically the pacing between the storylines, and the slow cat and mouse between the Shrike and the Titan, though fun in theory, doesn't play out quite so well onscreen.. but it is still a brilliant, engaging episode. Thomas Dekker as a Changeling is a delight, that they've resurfaced a formerly retired species is a treat for fans (especially DS9 fans).
The Dominion Wars all over again, oh man! Where is The Sisko when you need him? (there's a part of me hoping we get something of him, I'll settle for even a voice-over, voice of the emissary or something, anything). Worf mentioning Rene/Odo was touching, a truly honourable man. Seven working on a model of the DS9 Station was also peak nostalgia.
8/10 - for the heavy DS9 energy (Ferengi baddie from last episode included)
The new writers appear to have actually watched an episode of TNG, unlike the first two seasons. Refreshing
A but better but yea lots of out of character behaviour for many people here. Riker fighting with Picard like that most of all.
Wow! So much drama in one episode, and I am loving all of these beautiful LCARS interfaces, in every scene and even in the end credits!
Great link?
Frak!
Solid ten.
Engage.
This episode was a total waste, I've seen better episodes with captain Kirk They are ruined the legacy of star trek with this episode
10/10
All Gold
Well that was
frickin awesome.
Another great episode,
How have they got it
so right this season
but they got it completely
wrong and woke and utter
Garbage the previous last 2
seasons.
All the drama with
Picard,Will and Beverly
was a bit naughty and
everyone was in the wrong
and out if line.
Picard kicking off at Bev
for using his issues with
his own family against him
the Picard does the exact
same dirty stunt on Will
with his dead son,
infront of the bridge crew
no less, bo wonder Will
was so pissed at Picard.
Beverly was just plain
in the wrong what she did
what a bitch move that was.
(I never even heard a sorry,
just more arguing defending
her decision.)
My respect went out the
Airlock for her.
and last but not least
Will blaming Picard,
they had no other choice
it's that simple,
No other options and
definitely the last resort.
That portal weapon is so
fcuking cool...wow,
I'm so glad 7 isn't benched
anymore, and I hope
they bring Worf and Raffi's
story over to the main one
with Picard’s.
This episode never stopped
giving and I bloody loved it
it was Awesome and
Thrilling and so Exciting
and I can't wait for
what comes next,
I can hardly contain myself.
Riker removing Picard from the bridge was completely out of character and also made absolutely no sense. The decision wasn’t made by Picard but by the destruction of the warp engine. Sure, now they could go with Picards plan, but there wasn’t anything else they could do. So blaming Picard afterwards didn’t make any sense. Also Riker would never treat Picard that way.
This is best season easily and even has some Easter eggs. Like Worf practicing fighting to the same classical music Picard was listening to in First Contact.
Could have been a good episode if they hadn't pissed on Picard and his legacy... AGAIN
I really liked this episode. I especially enjoyed Riker's conversation with Jack ("20 years cooking"). But the ending just doesn't make any sense. Would Riker really react like that as captain on the bridge in such a situation? Ranting at Picard, telling him it's his fault and that they're all doomed? No way. But when was the time for Riker to have been replaced by a changeling? When was he alone between his conversation with Jack and them coming to the bridge?
I'm not even getting into that whole "Crusher didn't tell Picard"-drama. Of course, she should have told him, especially since she told Jack.
Worf and Raffi's plot better soon joins up with Titan. At least there are some funny lines there.
But they're really trying to close all the 24th century subplots now. Now a Dominion subfaction's steering up trouble, I bet soon the Borg are going to return (with Agnes). And I guess we all know what was stolen from the Daystrom Institute.
On a sidenote: Love all the shoutbacks to First Contact - the opera Worf was listening to was the one same aria Picard was listening to when he told Riker they were sidelined to the Neutral Zone when the Borg attacked. Then of course there's the credits music, simply love that one. But talking about the credits: I still think there are too many cooks in this show. Did you count all those producers, co-producers, executiveproducers and supervising producers that are listed there? Again, I think the show could have used more writers than all those dozens of producers who all need to be listed individually instead of in groups - at least that means more of the FC-music... still...
Ah, now I understand. This show is about all the mistakes Picard made in his whole life. Not the Picard I remember but okay. It is consistent with the contemporary old white men are stupid narrative. But looking at Raffi we're even. She is not only stupid she is completely useless for the whole show. Thank god for some ass kicking by Worf.
what is it with Holloway thinking it's ok to always have women have children and hide them from their father's? it happens a lot. Beverly is an evil woman to both Picard and her son. I'm glad with how Picard handled this. I just wish he went further.
Sugar in Chamomile Tea?
Are you having a laugh
Ha, I was just thinking about Jack's British accent and Beverly just explained it. Ha, Number One
How much the tobacco industry pay for the smoking in space scene. Wtf. That was totally out of place. They should take the execs who green lighted and took payment for it, should be taken out side shot.
Picard look younger than "Next generation" season one!
Yes to ALL of this episode!! That space warping weapon was fantastic! I still want more Ferengi and more DS9 baddies...Jem Hadar, Vorta, Founders! I doubt it'll get to that but maybe?? Loving the new Worf! I wonder what the alien lifeforms in the nebula will turn out to be? Perhaps the creators of the Founders???

I really enjoyed this episode. I like Warf's new angle. Raffie, eh! However, Picard's look at Beverly prior to the "come to Jesus" rant... Loved it.
What I do find interesting though is that Riker was so willing to bark at Picard when they had a difference of tactics. There is more to this than role-reversal. I'm thinking that just maybe, somewhere between Riker and the kid talking in the hall way(Smiley Riker) and that bridge scene, that Riker may have been replaced with a Founder. Hmmm.
