Pretty unsatisfying ending. I loved the thought of them getting together from the first moment I realised that there is some tension, somewhere in the first season If I remember correctly. The scenes with Picard and Beverly were absolutely gorgeous.

The story around the episode is kinda tailored to give it a bit of a plot, but it's absolutely boring and I wouldn't have missed it. The paranoid guy was pretty annoying.

The Picard/Beverly relationship is so much better than the Will/Deanna relationship.

Probably because they're repressed and don't kiss each other all the time.

Everytime I watch the series this is the episode I can't wait to see again. Because this is THE episode ! Finally Picard and Crusher become aware of their feelings for each other. Really aware. Something I've been waiting for since day one if you will. But even after 25 years and having watched it uncountable times I am still not at peace with the end.
Was it for the better of the show ? There was little at risk. They will do it with Riker and Troi and those two always felt a bit forced. The have nowhere near the natural chemistry. This late, fully aware knowing it was the last season, why not go with it? It would have been so satisfying.
I remember when I watched it for the first time I was about to burst at the final scenes and than came the slap to the face. And I was sitting in front of the screen not wanting to accept what I had just seen. From a TV show with fictional characters no less. I am not saying they should have jumped at each other then and there, but exploring their feelings ? Hell, yeah.

Picard's greatest love will always be his work, Crusher knows that and loves him enough to let go of a VERY possible romantic relationship with him. There's also the added complexities of the guilt they'd both feel of betraying the dead husband/best friend as well as Wesley. A romance would absolutely end their friendship(companionship) and I think Beverly realises that she would rather have Picard as is than to ultimately lose him otherwise... I think Picard also realises all this when she rejects his impulsive momentary emotional expression.

They don't need telepathy to know how they feel about one another, but it does bring them some level of closure.

I get it, it sucks, but I get it (but it sucks).

That said -
Jean-Luc and Beverly forever!

One of the better episodes of the relatively unadventurous final season, and it's all because of the great chemistry between Picard and Crusher. Their scenes together are just a joy and then on top of that we get the great revelation (finally) they they are in love with each other (we suspected this all along, of course). I love seeing the more relaxed, vulnerable side of the Captain.

But then, then ending just puts a stop to all that as Beverly just randomly says no. Very annoying and it's complete nonsense, I presume just due to the fact that the episodes are required to be standalone.

Good old Pic deserved a campfire handie at least after that confession. Bev is such a tease.

The whole episode is very transparently constructed to force Crusher and Picard to face their feelings for each other.
