Sure, let's take the one thing that makes Star Trek possible and demonize it. It's painfully obvious that the writer of this episode wanted to make a political point about the use of fossil fuels here on earth. Leave it to a liberal to pee on everyone's parade.

A thinly veiled (ie., completely transparent) metaphor for climate change. It's a noble story idea executed in a poor way, and actually has more impact today than it probably did in 1993. Most of the genuinely fun or interesting parts come from the Data/Geordi friendship b-story which involves an attempt to train Data's cat, Spot.

It's a shame that the franchise never really did much to follow on from the apparently important in-universe issues raised here.

I understand this is a nod to something in the real world but why would it end without a solution considering it was about the very way they travel also they gave such a short time for total collapse because of using warp

While I haven’t seen the rest of this season I know I’m DS9 and Voyager they didn’t question hitting warp 9 over and over and I think if I watch Picard it’ll be there too soooo what gives

OK, I know Star Trek takes contemporary issues, puts them into a sci-fi environment and by doing that makes us look into the mirror. That is on of the cornerstones of what this franchise is about.
However, here they were taking it a bit too far. It's a moral speach from start to finish. Not only that but the behavior of that doctor is not logical. By destryoing her ship to prove her point she instantly threatened that what she's trying to protect. That's like dropping another atomic bomb to prove that nuclear power is really dangerous.
And there is a lot of talk about cats which not only doesn't mix well with the other topic. It also happenes on a sitcom like level. I was absolutely expecting a laughing track at certain times.

I get that climate change is an issue, but this is basically just "climate change bad." If I wanted a speech on why climate change is bad, then I would watch a speech on why climate change is bad, I wouldn't watch Star Trek.

Does Data ever train Spot is what I really want to know.
