Of course it's great to see these little Ferengis again. It's fun. As always, Voyager episodes are immediately better when they can capitalize on the well established universe that is the Alpha quadrant. Even the story ain't totally bad: it's about science (the wormhole), culture clashes, the ugly side of capitalism, first contact and the prime directive, religion. Classic Star Trek mixture. Neelix in disguise is actually better than regular Neelix. It's not an entirely good episode though. It could have told a darker and more serious story. For a start, they could have put more effort in the hope represented by the wormhole - I mean shouldn't that be a natural climax episode when Voyager actually is about to seize an opportunity to come back? They should have put up a fight. Instead they - once again - used the Ferengi civilization in a stereotype way and as a pure comedy element, although this race is actually quite fascinating. As a comedy, it ain't as hilarious as some Quark episodes were.

Revisiting the Ferengi that were stranded in the Delta quadrant back in TNG was a good idea, but this doesn't really work. A big problem is that it's not funny at any point, and gives us yet again another potential way home for Voyager which turns out to get them nowhere. This time it's made worse because the wormhole would have worked, but convenient science reasons suddenly make it stop working. Abysmal.

Ethan Phillips makes a pretty great Ferengi, though, as he's demonstrated before. He's a great actor who's got stuck with a terrible character. I was also disappointed by yet another terrible Star Trek primitive alien marketplace that's identical to all the others, and by this point feels painful to see. This time they didn't even bother to make them non-humans.

Also, one marketplace guy looked like Neil Gaiman.

They could have done so much with this Story. But instead of making a cool Episode they just Messed up.
Neelix as ferengi was good.

Are we struggling for material... Silly premise for an episode and silly outcome

Well, I actually liked this pick-up of a TNG story. Maybe they could've made it better, more serious. But my guess is, it never was intended to be a serious episode. I agree the end with the wormhole was a bit convenient. Not only did Voyager not get through but now both ends are unstable so we won't have to deal with the question where the Ferengi come out.
As per the Stardate this actually takes place right after the seasons premiere. I wonder if they held the episode back as it probably would not have had the impact Flashback had.
