Star Trek: Season 2

2x01 Amok Time

Fantastic. The mystery for the first half, visiting Vulcan, the ridiculous ceremony and battle with THAT music. Welcome, Mr. Chekov. These characters have really come to life by this point, and Spock's reaction to finding out Kirk was alive was gold.

I really appreciate Kirk not making a mockery of Spock's predicament. You can really tell he cares for his friend. I like learning more about Vulcans. The acting in this episode has been better than anything I've seen before in Star Trek.

From when Chekov said they were already making their way to Vulcan I realised what was going on. And I likened it to the turtles returning to the Galapagos islands.

I've watched so much Sci fi in my life and now I see where they all get their inspiration from.

I love T'Pring. Truly a bad bitch out for her self and her man.

This is as close to a perfect episode you'll get from the show.

Acting - top notch from everyone
Story - very personal on all accounts. A great display of friendship
Music - a score that became iconic

Also, the introduction of Chekov who was added for the younger audience at the time.

There is really nothing bad anywhere.

Dig that crazy score. Keeping Pon Farr secret seems to be illogical.

All eyes on Mr. Spock. Nimroy is a great actor and Spock an intriguing character. It always nice to learn more of the Vulcans. And this is a particular intriguing chapter of the mysterious Vulcan race. Similar topics have been discussed in the second generation shows: e.g. Voyager's Blood Fever, ENT'S Bounty and in Voyager's Body and Soul (the latter is still one of the comedic highlights of the franchise). It's nice that TOS' writers have realized that there's more to the Vulcan race than just their emotionless composure and using him as a prop for the final "let's make fun of the guy with the pointy ears scene" (although they won't break with this tradition will they?). This episode sets the tone of such Vulcan stories: In a nutshell: Vulcan sex and biology is strange, their rituals are inexplicable and the almost impenetrable Vulcan veneer of logic hides that they are savages deep with in.

Good start to season 2.

PS: Nice cleavage window.

A great introduction to Vulcan and the many customs they have, as well and the introduction to supremely private affairs which we get to revisit with T'Pol, Tuvok, and even Vorik.
