You know I'm getting pretty fed up with the Kirk is "teh uber" and wins at everything and is always right.

Could have been a great story if for not all the fluff bs.

Did this one actually have an attempted rape scene?

It's a mix of Spartacus, Barbarella and American Gladiators. In space. And in silly. (Speaking of silly: I would not even be surprised if the The Rock appeared like he did in that mediocre Voyager episode Tsunkatse. There are some parallels between the two epiosdes). Plus, there's a Dracula guy with laser eyes and punishment collars (which I already know from other shows in the franchise, c.f. e.g. Voyager's The Chute). And colorful speaking brains. Yes it's really that weird.

Is that Trek's comment on enslavement? Or even (attempted) rape? It's pretty weak. And boring. The B-plot back on Enterprise is even more boring.

Eventually, Kirk saves the day. Like he always does. With grandiloquent speeches, with his trademark brashness, with his bare fists and with his alpha-male mojo that makes space babes do whatever he wants. And of course he is bare-chested again (is there a count how many times are see the Captain topless in this show?). This fixation on our hero and the recurring plots are trite.

If you are constantly wondering about how much hairspray went into the hairdo of Angelique Pettyjohn you hardly can't call this episode gripping.

I guess a serious episode about slavery didn't get past studio censors back then. On the other hand we get, what I would describe as, an attempted rape of Uhura. This episode turns into yet another one of Kirks brief romances with a character we (and he) will never see again. Where we can see him bare chested and giving a grand speech. Butwithout much substance there is little weight to the morale.

A genuine example of "so bad it's good". This is a ridiculous over-the-top episode that I laughed most of the way through, but also found myself really getting into. Shatner is almost doing an impression of himself at times. The three brains are pure Futurama fodder. Really silly, really bad, really enjoyable.
