The season 4 opening arc feels like a surprising step back for the show. The underwater location is visually interesting, but the conflict is repetitive and drawn out. After a string of pantomime villains, these episodes somehow manage to present the worst one so far with the shark-headed Tamsen who is a cackling bad guy and fails across the board with a silly look, weak performance and terrible writing.

It's all resolved in such a basic way ("hey, bad guys, be good instead!") and simplifies things for a young audience a bit too far. Worst of all it's just so boring.

Just happy this arc is over....

Pretty weak stuff. Sometimes I forget this is a kids' show because it can actually deal in some legitimately deep and interesting themes, but in episodes like this, it goes very very simple, with a race of bad guys, the usual "we fooled you and we're in charge now, quisling!" routine, a villain who's so completely one-note and evil for the sake of evil that it strains credulity, and a generic unity message that feels aimed at the 5 year olds in the audience. Sure, there's something neat about the final fight with everyone coming together, but they make the bad guys so bad, and the good guys so good, that it's hard to get on board. Even Prince Lee-Char's coming of age feels very facile and rushed. There's some neat design stuff with the eels and aqua cages, but even that's a pretty generic damsel in distress story. Empty calories at best. Definitely one of the show's weaker outings.

such a terrible arc, completely meaningless, I believe the worst of all seasons!

It's been 5 years since I last saw this episode and unfortunately it stuck out in my mind because of how boring this particular arc was :sleepy: this was a really weak and drawn-out beginning for the new season

I'd say the writer of this watched "Jaws" a bit too often.
