Given John de Lancie's guest appearance, I wanted to like this one more.

It shouldn't be necessary to have characters do things that are at odds with their past established personality traits, just to tell the story, but that's what happened here. The whole time, it felt like I was watching an alternate-universe Carter. Surely our Carter would be a wee bit (understatement of the century) more proactive about communicating to Hammond the reasons for aborting the weapon test.

Fortunately, de Lancie's character will return for a few more episodes yet. Hopefully those will be better scripts.

I liked getting to know Carters home a bit more, that was kinda cool

Teal'c the Star Wars fanboy in a cowboy hat: amazing. John de Lancie: yes please. Everything else about this episode: pretty boring.

I know they were trying to flesh out Carter some, but they failed miserably. She is just as uninteresting as she has always been, the weakest character in the series because she has no outside life. Daniel at least was married and had an extended family to interact with. Jack has his fishing. Teal'c has so many interesting character traits. Carter is a workaholic... oh wow what a great trait for a TV character... not.

The relationship with the alien was truly in line with her character, boring! It was neither passionate, intriguing, nor standoffish. It was just average, blah. Which is too bad, despite the lack of emotion, the alien was 10x more interesting than Carter.
