Traci Young-Byron is the hard-hitting director of the Young Contemporary Dance Theatre (YCDT). YCDT will embark on the toughest dance season as her cadre of dancers try to stake their claim as the best dance team in Miami.
The dancers from the Young Contemporary Dance Theatre (YCDT) are headlining a big July 4th event and its director, Traci Young-Byron, decides to take a risk and allow both her Repertory and Company to perform. But when her intermediate dancers struggle to keep up and one of her principal Repertory dancers fails to show up to the event on time, it threatens to ruin the entire performance.
This week, Traci Young-Byron's YCDT dancers have been invited to audition for musical artist, Kiddie Garcia, in an exclusive concert showcase. Traci decides to only use only her top-tier Repertory dancers. Diaunte, one of her Company dancers, feels frustrated that he won't get a chance to perform. Meanwhile, Janae not only struggles with falling out of favor with Traci for being late to last week's performance, but she is also clashing at home with her overbearing mother Tamieka, who thinks Janae needs to 'step it up' at home.
Traci throws the dancers of YCDT for a loop when she announces only those who can do a triple pirouette can audition for the honor of performing for some of the biggest dignitaries in Miami.
Traci rehearses the Company for upcoming rep auditions, while the YCDT Repertory dancers prepare for a music video audition for singer Victoria. Choreographer Jordan puts the team through difficult drills and Jakirah struggles to keep up.
The YCDT dancers walk the runway and perform at a Tebo Dambe fashion show; and Icon Talent Agency holds auditions to find new dancers.
In the Season 1 finale, the dancers perform a personal liturgical dance; and members of the Company do freestyle routines for rep auditions in hopes of joining the elite YCDT.
