Very strong start! Good plot, interesting characters, good dialog and direction. Let's see if it tanks by the third episode (like every other new show I've seen lately).
I mean. I'm a simple woman. You say "Jake Johnson" and I'm there.
(Initial impression) This was the new show I was most interested in. Fortunately, the pilot was so much better than the promos. Codie Smulders is the draw and she fills out the role. The writing is full of wit and thrills. (The mixed tape was a nice touch.) The supporting cast was a pleasant surprise. I'm going to enjoy this. I give this a 7.5 (good start) out of 10. [PI Drama]
I never thought of Cobie Smulders as something special, but I think this series prove me wrong. I am writing this as I am watching episode 15. I think the show is great and the cast is awesome.
Good TV show that doesn't shy from heavy subject even if some approaches are superficial at worse. All characters are flawed but likable. The series is not very light but also not very heavy. It has a certain balance between comedy vs seriousness.
Overall, people wanting to watch something interesting and slightly funny will have a good time. I can think of only two reasons of why someone would drop or not watch it: a) It has been cancelled and S01 ends in a cliffhanger b) It is based on a Comic Book, depending of how much of a fan the person is, and how it compares with the show, the person may not like it. (I haven't read the comic yet).
Smulders is great in here as she usually is. It usually doesn't feel like Robin from HIMYM, with some key moments I had flashbacks of Robin when she says "Awwww" or some other thing connecting to the older show. But I'm glad that for me, she didn't became typecast.
Jake Johnson was also a pleasant surprise here, since the last place I watched him was from New Girl. It is nice to see him working a "bad boy" type of character.
All the other characters are also likable as stated. Hoffman is a little stiff at first but gets more interesting the more the series goes. Ansel is a nice character that lightens the show quite a lot when he is in scene. Tookie is also great and funny, Cosgrove's actress pick is also good. And having a Indigenous Community in the show was interesting.
Oh, yeah, the soundtrack is also great. Made me sing along many of the songs. Kudos for specially playing a Tegan and Sara song.
3 episodes in, I'm really enjoying the series so far. Too bad they cancelled it after just the one season. Will continue to watch it.

It was appealing, at first, mostly due to being a new show, but as episodes went by, the characters and everything else grown accustomed to, that initial level of engagement that was once had, had faded. It wasn't maintained. And eventually, I wasn't that into it with each episode. It was just another show alongside other shows that were airing at the same time that I watched each week, and that became the reason why I was watching it. That investment into something new was gone now that it wasn't new. I couldn't get invested anymore. But I kept watching, all the way. Unfortunately, it never came back. Maybe the number of episodes had something to do with it, making watching each episode after they air as an inevitable way to lose interest. It could've possibly been better to wait until it was over, then binge-watched all of it, I don't know. It's too late for that, now. If you love it, which I'm sure some of you do, good for you. Me, I'm indifferent about it, if anything. But there is a part of me that has me inwardly, almost subconsciously glad that the show is over, whether for good or for the first season, who knows.
