HOLY SHIT THAT WAS GENUINELY PHENOMENAL
The way they picked an episode title that would make absolutely no one suspect anything…
oh my god
- In retrospect, when Shiv kept ignoring Tom's calls a few minutes before he finally called Roman... brutal
- I was holding it together pretty well at the initial call only with Kendall and Roman, and even through Shiv's openly emotional one (Snook is really great in that scene), but I finally lost it at Kendall and Shiv on the way to tell Connor together, the shot cutting between their tear-stained faces and holding hands for support.
I was in denial. I thought it was some cruel prank. Only until I saw his head and chest did I think it might be real, even, even then I was in denial.
A legendary episode of TV in general. Shocking in how raw it was and how you went along with the family. How easy it would have been to show this from Logan's point of view and have the generic death... even if it were dramatic. No, instead we went along with the ride and experienced it like they would have. Brutal. This deserves awards.
Now for the drama between the kids for the money and power. I'll miss Logan... but maybe he has tricks up his sleeve even in death...
I was in denial for like half of the episode the same as Roman. Still can't believe it. I also thought that maybe it was just a ploy but no, that just happened. WTF.
Wow. This was unexpected. I mean, maybe not the outcome (I had been expecting it since Season 1, Episode 1) but not any time soon - and especially with so many episodes left in the final Season. But not only was the outcome unexpected, making the episode alone a ride, but the quality in direction and acting took this to another level. All players throughout the various seasons, the many Yes men of the boardroom, and the additional characters, who often have little to no impact came together today to put together something great. A massive achievement.
Even though this show was never a straight up comedy, humor is a big part of it. That's why this episode was so tough to watch.
It must have been triggering for people that lost a parent :(
I don't think it's too early to say that tonight's episode of SUCCESSION was literally one of the greatest in television history.
am I the only one who thought in the beginning that Logan dying was a ploy to somehow fuck over the kids again :upside_down:
……nah it was just me & maybe I ended up caring for the bastard in the end (help)
I’m absolutely blown away, I was in complete denial just like Roman thinking that he couldn’t actually be dead. The death being so sudden was in perfect character of the show, and I believe this is without a doubt the best episode in the whole series so far. I could go on and on.
Three episodes in. I can’t believe Logan Roy is really gone. What a season. The show won’t be the same without him. For me, his death was necessary for this series to end. Would have felt unfinished otherwise. Succession is going to have succession. Holy shit, it's happening.
What an amazing episode. That was one of the most realistic depictions of finding out someone died unexpectedly I’ve seen on TV.
I feel so numb. Wow. I was like Roman, in denial that Logan was actually dead until they made it official. I couldn't shake the feeling that it might be some cruel elaborate game he was playing to suck the kids back in. I'm not overly shocked that Logan has died this season, but I am shocked that it happened so early on.
Uhhh???? Holy fucking shit???? Hello???
My love towards Succession has been an on-and-off thing, and I haven't been a fan of this season either, until now. 'Connor's Wedding" might be the very best episode of the whole series, and certainly one to remember.
All the performances were award-worthy; the tension, suspense, uncertainty, everything translated really well as we found out the details in parallel with the characters. Up until a point, it could had very well been a ruse orchestrated by Logan, and that feeling lingered until the very end - after all, that is how Logan rolls or used to roll, fooling even his closest and turning everything around at the very last second.
And oh boy, how perfectly they capture that feeling when every hatred and issue you have with someone turns into care and worry if something dire happens. The kids here think they are rebels and felt like they had won and are kings of the world, free from their daddy issues, and just then, everything falls apart and they realize that they care, after all, and that's all that they did. And the love is still there, and they don't want him to die - they wanted him to suffer, but not like this, just without real consequences. Succession breathtakingly captures those feelings, I am not sure I have seen such candid moments anywhere else. And the viewer can completely flow with it all. Kudos to the writers, to the actors, to everybody.
this episode is even more impressive when you learn they shot about ~20~30m of it as a one-shot on PHYSICAL FILM (hiding canisters of film around the set to swap out) and had the confidence to walk away from keeping it a 1-shot and edited in more of tom's side than planned
i like a 1-shot as much as the next guy but it can be SUCH a showy look-at-me technique (and everyone feels like they're trying to work one in post-Birdman/True Detective without it really supporting the storytelling), much credit to them for having it in hand and deciding against it

What an amazing hour of television.
I love the title of this episode partially because it's such a good smoke screen, but mostly because it's so perfect for Connor. Of COURSE the episode that's supposed to be all about him and this major event in his life ends up being all about Logan and the other three children.
Out of everyone, it was Tom that tied this one together for me. Watching the progression of how he deals with the situation, then his grief, was such a great study of his character.
Why does every other HBO shows have weddings that are chaotic?!
Terrific acting this episode, especially after the bombshell. I think it makes sense for Logan to die at this point to allow for some proper resolution to the series and to setup his kids' future / explore the fallout with him being out the picture. Really looking forward to the final run of episodes.
In hindsight, it shouldn't be surprising that Logan dies on the 3rd episode of the final season. The series is called Succession and it will take all of the remaining 7 episodes to figure out who will succeed Logan as the CEO of Waystar RoyCo. Earlier episodes have also planted seeds that the company may be on the chopping block, which would also be a fitting end.
Theories aside, what an episode. It has perhaps the strongest performances from would-be-successors. The series always wrestled with what familial love is, and the consequences of lack of thereof. As these imperfect and broken offsprings go through stages of grief right in front of our eyes, Logan's underlings plot their next move.
Meanwhile, the forgotten eldest son Connor is the first to truly understand why he is such a broken mess. And the first to accept and move on. Hopefully the first to find happiness?
Devastating and gut-wrenching, not because of the actual death, but for the atmosphere of the Roy's siblings as they go thru the news, while not really working like proper human people. A feelt that can't come easily, because of the complex relationship with Logan and the economic implications at play. Again we are reminded that Shiv, Kendall and Roman (the one who actually steals this season) really can't feel love as easy as it should be, and, that actually ensues a lot of comedy here.
this is only episode three............
The gradual intensity in this episode felt like a finale. Still, the events unraveled so vividly it was triggering at times. Superb!
SARAH SNOOK EMMY TIME! SARAH SNOOK EMMY TIME!
Everyone's acting on this show has always been good, but Jeremy Strong's will always be on another level. He makes Ken the easiest to connect and sympathize with. What a fucking great episode of television. Even though I was spoiled for what happened, but it still didn't take away from enjoying and appreciating the ride.
GOAT!
Sarah Snook, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are second to none. They’ve all stepped it up in a huge way.
Holy F*, this episode was much intense and felt so real. maybe death isn't as glamorous after all
It’s crazy that they didn’t show Logan at all before his death. He was just here one episode and gone the next, no hints or anything.
The writers and Jeremy Strong deserve all the accolades for making his character what it is and for the way we all feel for him (even when we shouldn’t).
Most times death ain’t that glamorous and special, ir just…. happens. Brilliant way of doing it.
There’s a reason this episode has a 9.9/10 rating on IMDB. Probably the only reason it isn’t 10 is cause IMDB can’t do a 10.
Fantastic episode, very emotional and moving
Wow! I can't believe what I just saw. Succession really begins.
Finally something actually happened in this show!
Wow! A great episode, so many different ways this can go now.
i feel like ive just run a marathon
These people are not normal
Absolutely craziest thing ever I was so excited as well but omg - do not get spoilers for this watch it quick
RIP Logan Roy
I'm actually shocked, us finding out the same time as Roman and Kendall added to that, they didn't even hint that this was a possibility at the start of the episode (a lot of other shows would've shown him in the bathroom before it happened, not Succession though) truly the greatest show on TV right now
It was shocking, surprising and as we expect everything from Logan, we have to see it to finally believe it.
HBO continues to make history.
I can't believe how sad everything actually was.
:crab::crab::crab: LOGAN IS GONE :crab::crab::crab:
Elite episode and I’m so excited for the rest of the series :fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:
Wow!
That was intense!
Such a great acting in this episode from all the actors!
I apparently can't make single word comments so heres this:
Huh
All i need to say about this episode is....SUPERB.
Incredible acting all around. One of the best episodes on TV ever.
One of THE best TV episodes EVER!! Great story line and so well acted. Just phenomenal- WOW!!
Did I just watch the greatest episode of all time???
I have not yet recovered from this.
Just mind-blowing and one of the best if not the best TV show episodes I have ever seen.
This episode was unbelievable! What a great show. Shame it's the final season.
I missed the episode when it aired but all my friends were in shock. I saw the title and thought, oh yeah Connor's wedding is gonna be a disaster. This episode was a beautiful disaster...I hate it. It was so good at showing the worst. Succession continuing to present the highest form of storytelling.
Television will never be the same….One of the greatest ever
This episode is a total masterpiece, period.
Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin. That is all.
