Best cold open to a show ever. Okay, maybe not ever, but I'd have to go back a long time to find a better one. Quirky, funny, gross. Intriguing. So good that by the time the title card appeared, I was taking a break to look up the writing and directing talent on this one, and it was the writer's first gig anywhere, apparently, and she nailed it. (I'm assuming that she wrote the Charming Acres part and that the veteran writer wrote the ongoing stuff with Jack.) The reveal on the Charming Acres bit was obvious, but it was a terrific A-plot. Lots of weirdness and fun, and the director got a lot out of Padalecki, who's usually the weak acting link but who turned in a solid performance this week. Dean was the comic relief for the B-plot and handled it well, but that's nothing new. It was also good to see Donatello again, and they did a good job of setting the table for what will surely be the main topic of the rest of the season where Jack is concerned.
Now I'm more convinced than ever. Jack will end up in the box. It's a shame. It would just be to hard to write for the boys if they always had access to "the most powerful being on the planet". I Jack had went with Sam and Cass there would have been no challenge.
Even if they're used to writing high level adventures, adding a god to the team would throw things off.
"So, ergo, whenever you don't want them to worry, just think WWWD, What Would the Winchesters Do?"
The episode was outstanding. The little things were the ones that made it perfect. I think I'm gonna keep rewatching this episode a lot in the near future.
If there's one thing that I loved was the symbolism. Props to the director because they did an amazing job. I'm absolutely in love with the coffee scene with Donatello and Jack. I've got a sweet spot for good cinematography and it always catches my attention how something so simple can say so many things.
Cas was the real MVP. He was on fire with the quotes tonight. So many amazing one liners. Probably, my favourite is that random "God has a beard". I spit my drink. It was so unexpected, yet great.
"Oh, no. His head exploded, like a ripe melon on the sun. It was an apt metaphor". I completely burst out laughing. That, added to the fact that all the customers at the diner stopped talking the minute he said it, made it even better. Can we, please, have Cas describing how people die from now on? He definitely has a way with words.
He made me burst out laughing quite a lot. His "maybe they're Mormons" was spot on and his "His hair. He has beautiful hair" just had me rolling on the floor.
I loved how he reached the level of exasperation as he kept on talking. The scene when Sam is the husband (or should I say Justin?) was perfection. I was dying of laughter. Can we have Sam and Cas hunting together for more episodes? They're golden. It was a funding treasure. I couldn't stop watching it. If only the Justin scenes had lasted a tad longer.
I've been saying it for quite a while but the episodes combining the recurrent monster of the week with the mytharc are really spot on.
A sort of wacky episode was all I needed now. I enjoyed all the Justin scenes more than I can actually express. Sam and Cas need to go hunting more often.
Now, all the Jack stuff. I love how he can still be adorable and terrifying at the same time. The snake, the black jacket, his attitude... Good lord, I don't want Jack to be evil. The sad thing about it is that Jack will be evil by thinking that he's doing good.
The foreshadowing, the symbolism with the snake and the coffee, the cakes, Donatello saying "who knows what's going on inside his head?" Jesus, I don't want Jack to ever stop being so pure. I'm scared and nervous for what's to come.
Let's not forget that we still got Lucifer as a loose end. He woke up in the empty and still we haven't heard of him. Jack's the most powerful being in the universe now, so, what if he becomes so detached that Lucifer and the boys have to team-up? That'd be something new. Whatever happens, I just want my pure sweet and innocent rqh of sunshine to be okay.
As a shootout, I just wanted to point out one of the true masterpieces of tonight's episode:
Wife: “Oh, you!”
Sam: “Oh, you.”
Cas : “Oh, no.”
And "Rawr" - Sam Winchester (2019)
I think jack will be good not evil
So, basically, the writers wanted to make sure everyone this season had a big trauma and/or secret to haunt them. But then they realized, "hey, we don't have one for Sam, and we're almost done with the season". So they made stuff happen off-screen last episode to give Sam trauma on-screen this episode.
Cas thinks his partner's hair is beautiful. There's a nibble for the shippers.
"God has a beard!" Okay, this has easily become one of Castiel's best quotes.
Sunny should become a hunter. It'd be cool if she joined Jody's squad.
WTF, Jack? You're supposed to be the eternal sweetie. We don't need another take on season 6...

OMG I wish that Sam as Justin bit went a little longer. That was hilarious.
