Superstore: Season 5

5x12 Myrtle

I don’t mean to undermine the feeling of loss that everyone must have felt as friends and coworkers, but this episode hardly pays a tribute to Linda Porter and her journey on the show. Especially considering its title, “Myrtle”. Her passing merely works as a plot device to introduce Dina’s father and a bit of her backstory. And least importanly, to showcase once again how truly dumb and idiotic Glenn really is. We already know this show doesn’t take it self too seriously, but even the closing scene severely lacks substance.

RIP Linda Porter:sparkles:

Great casting for Dina's father.

Does every scriptwriter in USA think that everyone has zero sense of self worth and forgives everything, no matter how bad their parents are, as long as they get thrown a tiniest bone to?

Touching. RIP Linda Porter. May Glenn clumsy work attitude bring you the way to the sky where all stars shines.

Dean Norris as Dina's dad worked really well. "Big Jim" Rennie (Under the Dome) got to ride again, in a way. (And it's funny that he had a recurring role on Girlboss, which might make his casting an intentional subtle reference to the previous episode—though obviously it would be a better reference if he had been in that one instead of this one.)

This episode didn't earn its title of "Myrtle", though. If they'd taken a few extra weeks to put together a tribute, I bet it could have been much more meaningful. Glenn's lack of self-awareness is starting to get to me.
