Straight back into the boiling pot, it's so great to be back in the restaurant with all the high-strung "fuck yous" and high tempo back and forths. I wonder if Carmen's refusal to connect and process his emotions and relationships will end up blowing up in his face over the course of this season. Focusing on his craft at the detriment to his interpersonal relationships is how he got into this state, I hope the character turns a corner and sees that the repetition of this mindset might get him Michelin stars, but will it be worth it with no-one to celebrate it with? I've also got a horrible feeling about Syd's Dad; leaving the toothbrush on the mug and reminding him to take his medication seem like breadcrumbs left for an impending tragedy. I hope beyond hope that I'm wrong, but I guess it wouldn't be The Bear without heartbreak and sorrow. I'll say it again, best show on TV. Every character feels like family and I want all of them to live their best lives. I'd also be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the fantastic opening to this episode, a love letter to the service workers and public servants of the city of Chicago. Great great stuff.
