I rarely comment on anything here, but "Hyde Park Corner" has to be one of the most powerful and emotional episodes in television history.

The first few minutes are really cringeworthy. But if you sit through that, you're rewarded with an incredible emotional episode.

I had so many goosebumps, the soundtrack was always on point. No wonder the music is so perfect, Hans Zimmer is one of the music composers.

Pretty appalling portrayal of the royal tour of Kenya. But then again, I wouldn't ever expect the British media to pass up an opportunity to romanticise and propagandize the monarchy. No doubt the series will continue to do so.

this show is like period drama You. I know I shouldn't like it but damn am I compelled. this episode even acknowledges everyone on screen is racist and imperialist yet I'm all in on their personal drama

It is absolutely amazing how they managed to display the weight of the events. And I love how they let the pictures speak for themselves without using any dialogue.

What a superb episode.

they said "the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead!" TWICE ((King George about himself/Andrew Windsor and Queen Mary(?) about Queen Elizabeth II / Elizabeth Mountbatten))

Rip Queen Elizabeth II... Watching after the sad news yesterday

I get that the story itself is rather moving especially for certain countries, but the whole thing where they announce the news of the king is a bit too... hollywood-esque for me. They show it like the whole world suddenly erupts in mourning over one dead (sick and old...) king. No matter how important the English king, there's a lot of other kings and emperors out there, dead or alive, and most people outside of the country of their reign don't usually care quite as much. Not emotionally anyway. So having announcers from Germany, France... China?... be this affected... I don't believe it.
And maybe back in the days it would be a huge headliner all over the world news, but I doubt it would be like that nowadays. Once the crowned ones get old, you should be able to expect them to die within a certain time... no?

But uh, great shots in Africa, still not a huge fan of the deliberate ways they're trying to make them look like heroes (elephant, engine).

The last scenes accompanied by the speech brought the value this episode had for me up again. Weak start, strong ending.

"The Crown must always win." I think this was one of the best episodes I've ever seen!
