One such call that comes in live to the National Call Centre is tasked out to Inspector Emily Collins, who races to rescue unloved Pomeranian Freddie, left abandoned in disgusting conditions.

The also catches up with Mavis, one of nine poodles abandoned by the side of the road in Winchester last year. When they were found, their wet, matted coats accounted for more than 40 per cent of their body weight, but now Mavis regularly goes for grooming and pampering treatments with her owner Sally. Finally, Anthony Pulfer checks in on Prince, the shar pei who was found with barely any fur.
