I have said it before and I have to confirm this again...Holden and Naomi remain the weakest characters (as they actually are in the book too) that when the plot puts them in the background like in this episode, the show works much better. In my opinion the tv version managed to fix some weaknesses of the books, so maybe screenplayers could have tried to make the story more collective and leave Holden and Naomi in a not too prominent position. The first season was kind of different since there was Miller around, a much more interesting character.
One thing's for sure, since her storyline took steam, Bobbie is totally stealing this show. She made Draper TV versione much more intense than her book counterpart.
I loved Holden holding back Naomi. He's becoming much more of a likeable character. He's been awakening more to the real world.
The crew are giving too much shit to Amos. I've been liking his character a lot this season, and have been mostly agreeing with what he's been doing.
Another layer has been added, with the Gannymede experiment being of (possibly) Martian design (maybe that scientist guy the crew are after is working for the Martian's?). So the Martian's possibly got a hold of some protomolecule and started experimenting. The belters know about it or where to get it (from that belter faction leader guy/OPA saying he would give it to the belt) and there was the experiments of the private side of Earth experimenting with it like from that rich guy (who was in cahoots with the deputy UN guy). It's like soon everyone will know about and experiment with/use the protomolecule.
It's all a middle muddled and convoluted, but i'm enjoying it and i think it's good, and i mostly understand the bigger picture that's going on.
Just wanted to say, Chrisjen is much improved this season. She's been an absolute badass.
It'll be interesting to see if it's the Martian government itself experimenting with the protomolecule, and not a private side like on Earth. And it would be interesting to see what the Earth government would do with it. The OPA is kind of undefined, which i don't like. There's talk of factions and different leaders and bases, and it's not very defined. We also haven't seen anything of the Martian government.
There's a lot of talk with our crew about continuing to destroy the protomolecule. I can't help but disagree, it could be important for any number of applications, and we need to understand it and possibly use it, at the least for our defence against a possible future alien incursion. Instead, Holden, who isn't very intelligent or prudent, just wants to destroy it all. I'm glad at least Naomi didn't destroy that sample, but it did show disloyalty.
I can understand what Holden is thinking, because he's seen the disastrous result of what the protomolecule has done. But it's annoying he doesn't have any foresight. On the other hand, he had a point about what would they do with it or who to give it, especially in light of this newest revelation. Alex wanted to give the sample to the Martian's, and we see that might have been a mistake. I think Holden should have wanted to keep the sample though, that would show prudence, and he doesn't have to do anything with it for now. At least Naomi had that foresight. But is it foresight, or is she wanting to use it for OPA goals in the future?
Edit: Wanted to talk about what someone else said about Draper and my thoughts about her. I didn't like her character pretty much at all. Then this episode made me care about her. That's good. Her being honest and following orders in helping to avert a war i liked, and then spitting out a bit of the truth i kinda liked and disliked. Then her journey to reach the Ocean i liked, and i like her a bit now.
What a lucky opportunity for Avasarala. I hope she and Bobbie will work together on this.
Bobbie's journey to the ocean was quite interesting as it provided some nice insights into the lives of the lower class. It also had some Cyberpunk vibes. The Martian injections must work wonders though because I would (very likely) be severely injured after Bobbie's fall when she "escaped".
Project Caliban seems scary.
Errinwright coming clean was really unexpected. Seems like he's also trying to do the right thing (or at least not to be a bad person) but made a big mistake that he now regrets.
And I really thought the Martians were honest. Seems like every party involved here is a bad apple.
Hmmm, they're starting to drag their feet. We used to have action, this episode was a total bore
Mirror's Edge type beat is what I felt when we were following Bobbie Draper through the streets, out the window of her apartment.
Its kind of amazing how everything in the show is 2-3 shades darker than in the books.
I just read the passages which coincide with this episode and can't remember reading about massive homelessness (although it might have been implied to people who live in countries where wellfare doesn't include housing).
Before starting to read the books I always thought the source drew this dark picture as well, but it really is just the TV Show. While the story-arc (at lest this far) remains the same - all the details are worse in the show and all the characters more evil (including the protagonists stealing the ship to enter Ganymede) and devious (Naomi saying she destroyed the sample when she didn't).
There were so many things going on in this ep:
Erinwright finally confirms to Chrisjen his part in the Aros, filling in Mars' role in Ganemene
Holden is falling further down the path of his crusade, letting Amos loose to get the info he needs, this development is troubling to Naomi, who can see the dark path Holden is sinking into
Meanwhile, Drapper is on a mission to see her dream: the ocean.
All of these roads are building up to an explosive finally.... with all three meeting up?
Oh the look on her face.. worth the whole season.
The feeling of helplessness is the worst

I love how the show make me feel and see Earth as extraterrestrials, so to be wonderfully pleased by all of its beauties, even if at the exit of a sewage pipe
