What a wonderful and tense season finale. Can’t wait till season 6. :cry:

Hold on people, I think this show is turning into 40k.
This actually is an overall decent finale. The tense in Camina's fleet is good. The Rocinante battle is good. Naomi's rescue is good. The reveal on the end was also good. However there's one reason that makes the episode feels like a jumble of choppily edited scenes: everything involving Alex's death.
I don't take issue with it being sudden and abrupt, as many deaths are. But everyone feels really disconnected from that one incident that should have affected at least all the main casts. Alex just died, but Holden and Naomi spent their time to listen to Naomi's supposed farewell (and spent minutes on it). Amos was more eager to bring Peaches instead of mourning his close friend; even worse he was only informed about Alex's death off screen. For a fellow Martian and somebody who has spent quite a time with Alex, Bobbie seems largely unaffected at all. And Alex, well... The only tribute they gave to this incident is a plaque, which makes for some emotional moment, but that's it. Heck, that part where Holden talked to Naomi to rekindle the events almost feels like Holden breaking the fourth wall to explain to viewers due to how abrupt it is handled.
It almost feels like the event is not supposed to happen, and the showrunners edited in last minutes.
This season has been nothing but a Naomi season that leads to a reunion of Rocinante crew. That incident stuck like a sore thumb, making the supposedly joyful event with all crews gathering feels really emotionally detached. Not to mention that, barring the reveal at the end, most events still happen off screen. Just like most things that happened this season. We don't get to see the impact of something big happening.
So despite being an overall decent episode, this finale closes the relatively most mediocre season The Expanse has produced. I'd even say that the quality is even lower than Season 4. The first four episodes were nice, but it went downhill and stagnated really fast.
Holden's face when he saw Clarissa was absolutely priceless.
For me this season was much better than the previous one, and it seems S6 is going to be one the best seasons of television.
The flow of this episode detracted from its dramatic effect. There were many good pieces in this episode, but their order and the editing of them reduced their impact. Naomi's rescue, the battle with the Rocinante, the battle at the gate, and the reunion with Avasarala, none of these hit with me the way they could've.
Firstly, the nice speech Avasarala gives during the reception would have been much better as the last scene of the episode. After the belters and Martians have taken over the ring, we would be concerned about the future, then Avasarala gives us hope.
The other development that didn't resonate with me was the dissolution of Drummer's team. I understand that they were torn between supporting Marcos and not, but that turmoil was caused by a threat of destruction, not a desire to work with Inaros. The ties between the crew were shown to be extremely strong, emotionally and otherwise. It should take an enormous conflict to break them. The crew knew that the agreement with Inaros was made under duress and so should have understood how fragile it was. The crew faced two options: cooperate with Inaros and do things they did not want to, or risk their lives and their family's lives by defying him. Both options would be reasonable and acceptable to the crew, and it doesn't resonate with me that the crew would be that upset by Drummer making the decision everyone thought she'd make in the first place. I could accept a decision by some of the crew to leave temporarily because their brother was killed, but to blame Drummer for this (and not Inaros) and completely break their bonds is a stretch given their relationship.
Camina turning the tables was just great!
I would have prefered it if she just shot the bitch(sorry for the term, but it fits) from behind without making a fuss.
And yes, of course she knew what would happen.I think it is amazing how people who fought for their freedom not long ago are this willing to go under Marcos banner, who is a tyrant at best and a slavemaster at worst.
Oksana leaving would have upset me at the beginning of the season, but at this point her cowardess started to really go on my nerves anyway. So good ridance.
I think they closed the small storylines well and are set up pretty well to close the big final one in Season 6.
Wow, one of the most mundane deaths of a main character I can remember; RIP Alex. (And, yes, I know why)
Also, seemed like some storyline gaps from the last episode, like Amos & crews arrival on Luna; no screening process for new arrivals, since "Peaches" apparently got off the shuttle with no issue? She is technically an escaped high risk prisoner, no?
Last nitpick: thank God Naomi is off that ship, it was all I could do to not FF through her ultra-whinning scenes, that whole concept seemed out of character to me.
That being said, good stuff :clap:, and I'll be waiting anxiously for season 6.

Damn, the writers did Alex dirty! It def should have been Naomi. Especially with all she’s gone through this season. I’m guessing she’s gonna have another huge part in the next season taking down Marcos, sigh. Also, The crews minimal reaction to Alex’s death was disheartening and confusing, really wish they spent more time celebrating his legacy.
Very close to perfection. The whole season has alternated between poignant build-up and fast-paced resolutions, and this one had good amounts of both.
I'm looking forward to next season potentially having two big villains "out there". If Marco was bad news, what to make of someone who looks at their Starship Troopers society and thinks "hmm... look at all these deviants with their tokens of individuality under their uniforms, we need to achieve real purity" :sweat_smile:
And at least someone finally acknowledged Chrisjen has "come a long way" since her S1 "Earth must come first" Belter-torturing self.
LISSSSTEN!!!! The Expanse has matured quite nicely, and I'm definitely looking forward to the promised goodies. OH MAN, it's been a hell of a ride!

This season has been beyond my expectations for a SCIFI show. It's going to be very hard to match it once it's finally over. I'm very thankful they picked it up for one more season to wrap stuff up

I hope I'm wrong but the show won't be the same without Alex.. The Rocinante lost an epic pilot and I don't know how their adventures would be the same without a pilot like Alex
Marco Inaros seems like an over the edge villain and I honestly don't like anything that has to do with him
nevertheless I'm excited for the next season
Oh crap, I so hoped that they would finally get rid of that terrorist asshole and the idiot son. Now it looks like we will have to suffer through another season with this lowlife :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.
I loved the first 3 seasons and danced in the streets when Amazon picked it up. These two seasons ... won't bother with S6. Slow, disjointed, too much social comment for no reason. Amos and Drummer are the only consistent characters, the rest have massive personality changes that just don't happen.

Ngl the biggest mystery for me this season has got to be Filip. More precisely, what the hell is going on inside his head?!
I can't read him. And I really wanted to know his side of the story. Like, is he all in with Marco's plan now? Or is he fed up with that manipulative asshole? Cause he was acting pretty weird in this episode. Is he on the fence about this whole thing, maybe because getting to see Naomi in person changed his perspective a bit?!
This whole season felt like a goddamn setup for season 6 and I'm a little bit angry about it...
Still very enjoyable, but also slow and too much filler.

This season was a roller coaster in regards to quality. It felt stretched out and with generally decent to mediocre storylines. If this season had half the episodes it would have been really good. I did enjoy this episode though.
How could you kill off Alex like that? I guess it adds to the realism of being too risky piloting, but cmon.
No alien stuff this season. Just another "They have the protomolecule" boring.
Let's be real, the alien stuff hasn't been executed well throughout the entire show. That most interesting alien thing was when the protomolecule took over Eros and was heading for earth (and instead of an alien intelligence, it was just Julie Mao wanting to come home, which is less interesting and threatening). They had the chance for great things with the structure in season 4, and we got some interesting things but it was kinda disappointing overall, especially at the end with the detective and that anomaly.
At least next season looks to have some alien stuff, and they'll also be dealing with Inarus. I actually look forward to both storylines though, and it's great the crew is united and we have some new members.
Edit: Did some research and discovered that the actor who played Alex had allegations against him, and that's why they killed him off in the show, as he was supposed to be alive. Wow, that's why his death is so abrupt. To be honest, i'm not too bothered about Alex dying. I liked him, but he was a bad father and husband. Even before the Rocinante, he wanted to get away from his family and go on joyriding adventures on the Cantebury.
Good end of the season for a great series. Preparing things for the final season
As this one plays out, the writers do a terrific job of tweaking things and making the necessary adjustments to accommodate the exit of a character who was abruptly written out of the show after the season had been completely filmed. I was impressed by the seamless way that they integrated the departure into the larger story, and it didn't detract from the quality of this one whatsoever. And the way that Peaches is reintroduced to Holden? Instant classic. Point to Amos. I'm already looking forward to seeing more Roci-based action next season now that the band is back together again!

After meh¡ past few episodes, this one closes the season fairly well. Overall, weak season but great setup for season 6.
I can't even begin to describe how heartbroken I am that Alex died. He was such a kind and loving man and to kill him like this without even letting him make up with his family was just cruel. I will miss this space cowboy so much, he deserved way better.
Alex dies because they removed someone over allegations of sexual missconduct.
I am pissed about this after learning that this is a change to the books.
Either at Cas Anvar for doing the stuff he allegedly did (if he did them and its not another false allegations campaign - wouldn't be the first, not even the first this decade) or against the people who are willing so sacrifice another career over allegations.
Since the results of the independant investigation are either not public or I at least can't find them - I am definitely angry with the people responsible for playing this way.
Either he is guilty, then it should be made public or he is innocent in which case it should also be made public so he can live a life without being spit in the face. What is the point of saying there is an investigation when you don't tell people what the results of it were.
No matter how we feel about allegations against Cas, no writers should ever do this to a character. It's extremely shitty to simply abandon his character arc instead of concluding it.
Awesome finale. That Holden stare LOL. It was great seeing Drummer get her balls back and taking charge. Hope she makes it through the final season ok.
I was sad about Alex, I would have rather Naomi died. Then I read about the actor and I wasn't so sad any more. Fuck that dude.
Also, being untethered in space and slowly running out of air is in my top 3 worst ways to die for sure.
Naomi's survival seems hella unconvincing but oh well.. Also they really didn't gave the characters or us a moment to mourn Alex' death in any way ): and with all the med tech and sensors on them could it even happen like that out of nothing? With no warning at all?
Then we had the biggest catastrophe on earth since million of years and the impact it should have wasn't jus there, and it's not only cause lots of it happened off screen - i actually like when sometimes major things happen like that so it's a fullon surprise - it's more like how the ppl behave and talk..
Still overall, this was the first good season since the first one for me.
Alex's death was so poorly done that it felt that someone was fired and they had to rush that finale

This was a very bitty season that didn’t take the overall story forward much at all. Previous seasons were built around the Rocinante and its crew and this season showed how much is lost when that unit is split apart. Naomi had decent storylines but there was so much emoting, it was painful to watch. Poor Amos had a road trip that never really had a purpose. Holden didn’t have a lot to do. As for Alex, where did that come from? A 6/10 season. Must do better.
Holy crap this was a good season. This finale has me utterly shattered at the loss of Alex and speechless at that ending. I can't wait for the next season. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Holden's face was priceless when he saw Clarissa Mao.

Great one, I'm really impressed by how this show defies the longevity curse most TV shows go through.
I'm sad that Alex is gone, but I guess it's understandable due to the accusations he was facing.
