[6.7/10] Eh, mixed bag of a start to season 2. The change in locales for Vegas is an interesting place to put things, but the humor is really hit or miss. Bits like the race through security and the in-the-pool drafting are a little too cartoony. But there’s some solid shtick with Jenny and Kevin sparring over who gets to join the league, and her helping Ruxin to get under everyone else’s skin.
I gotta admit, I’m not a fan of adding Chad Ochocinco to the mix for the episode. Three NFL guest stars in seven episodes is a little corny. Like the others, Chad is doing his best, but acting isn’t his specialty. It also has a latter-day Simpsons problem, where any celebrity who shows up has to be feted and treated like the coolest guys in the world. There’s also more vague wish fulfillment tourism and obvious product placement that loses the show some cred.
I do like Jason Mantzoukas being added to the mix, and he’s a little abrasive but still enjoyable here. Taco is making music again, which is his best mode on this show (and turns out to be Chad Ochocinco’s best mode as well!). The bit with the guys going to the strip club, and just asking the dancers for fantasy football advice is a good laugh, though Ruxin literally masturbating to his lineup is the kind of dumb frat joke that just makes me roll my eyes.
Overall, this is still better than a lot of the first season, but has enough weak humor and sitcommy stuff to keep it a shade under “good.”
