"what do you have for a social obligation I'm not emotionally equipped to be at?"
GENIOUS!!!
How this show manages to be about MeToo yet also be tone deaf is beyond me.
Fives episodes in and I can see why the show took a critical bashing from its first three episodes. The writing feels very shouting-to-the-cheap-seats, often to the point of forced speechifying, which is grating early on without the later twisty fun melodrama of the new Morning Show status quo to counter it. So far Aniston emerges fully unscathed, Witherspoon is uneven but still fun, but Carell is deadly. The cheap seats writing combined with his bellowing delivery make his scenes sometimes actively painful, and I'll not be surprised if anyone gets a concentrated dose of it in the first episode then bails. Episode 4 is the best so far (out of 5) because apart from that great interview scene at the end, he's not in it. Returns with a vengeance in Episode 5 though, because his "You're going down, motherfuckaaaa" at the end is so embarrassing.
Aniston is great, but my MVP so far might actually be Billy Crudup, who's doing something magic with his role. He barely has any heavy, emotional acting moment yet but still exudes dangerous charisma out in waves, a far cry from his (also stellar) warm supporting turn in Where'd You Go, Bernadette the same year. He actually almost makes "And Woke Twitter will never forgive us" work, bless him.
Can a show get any better?! Just absolutely love it. Complicated characters in a complicated and fascinating world. Very excited for the next five episodes of the season.
When Grounds for Divorce hits you better BUCKLE THE FUCK UP
What the f*** is going on right now? I don't know, but it's weird and fascinating, and I'm super into it.
Cory
Who knew Jennifer Aniston could sing like that?
Also, Billy Crudup's Cory is my very favorite character!
This episode was a bit of a let-down after the last one - oh, it started out well with Mitch's surprise visit to the studio but then it dragged on... and I have to say I don't really like Bradley for all that she's important to break down the crust of all the relationships there, still it's hard to like her personally.
"Did you invite me out of courtesy? Of course"
Cory has the most chaotic energy ever, I still can’t figure him out, he is a messy guy that lives for the drama, and has like these psychopath serial killer vibes, I feel like hems just there to sabotage the network.
The spontaneous and inexplicable musical scenes will probably kill me one day, because my heart is just won't be able to take it, but actually I'm fine with that.
