That was wonderful. Joss Whedon has definitely got his game back. This has the potential to be amongst his best.
That was really rather good.
I'm tearing up at the end...just a culmination of exquisitely poignant isht...and, first closing credit: directed by Joss Whedon. And, I think, of course!
Hahaha
Pretty good start to a steampunk infused fantasy sci-fi series. Let’s see how the rest goes. This could be HBO’s next hit series.
I'm pleasantly surprised. Far better than I thought it was going to be. Whedon hasn't been hitting the mark lately, but he just very well could have done just that with this series. I hope HBO keeps this on the books. Fantastic potential to be a network hit.
"She's not killing whores, your grace, these are respectable gentlemen." (LOL, WHAT?!)
"...the heart of our empire brought to a shuddering halt, by the caprice and ambitions of those for whom ambition was never meant." (ouch!)
Aside from the fact that the show is a delightful visual treat of Victorian steam-punk sci-fi (which itself is uncommon and fascinating), it also has dialogue that hooks and keeps you on the line (pun intended). It's about positive change, the fight for equality, and about what it means to be human. From this brilliant opening episode, "The Nevers" has proven itself a worthy investment.
This is my third go 'round as I impatiently await its return. Good stuff!
The posh accents confused me at first. A couple of washer-women in victorian era... with upper-class accents. Vague origin stories until you get a partial one at the end of the episode. Hope the rest get filled out too as time goes on. overall a good plot-line and a hint of a not-villain/ villain. With the gentle plot twists, this is a classic Whedon. I will definitely watch the whole season
Actually very impressive, we a lured into what might be the vilain and the story line, but with whats we seen at the end, not sure we really know ...love it!

I read some reviews from trusted critics and all of them bashed on it. Although I avoid anything that doesn't have 4 stars, I tuned in because I'm a die hard Joss Whedon fan. I won't discuss what's been revealed early this year, so I will only speak about Whedon as an artist. That being said, this is Whedon's best television work since Firefly. This is a solid pilot, there are a couple of flaws here and there but the first episode shows plenty of potential, especially with the big chase scene that ends in the most Whedon way possible. I already love the sis-mance between Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, the two are completely amazing on screen and I'm dying to know more about them, same goes with the amazing array of characters. I wrote in my comments of Angel and Dollhouse that Whedon suffers from diversifying his casts, this appears to be a major improvement on that and luckily acknowledges racial tensions in the most Whedon way. Even though the males are also intriguing, in no way do they rival the women in the major roles (Nick Frost plays a gangster while James Norton is a pansexual playboy, that shows how much Whedon put into these new heroines and femme fatales). Anyways, this was bittersweet to watch as a die hard fan of Whedon's knowing it might be his last work and that these characters will have a different voice afterwards. I'll obviously give Philippa Goslett a chance but this was birthed by Joss Whedon.
