This show seems to be a copy of the first season of the show it's based on in the UK — "Criminal Justice" (2008): https://trakt.tv/shows/criminal-justice
My wife and I loved the BBC version. It had two seasons. We tried watching "The Night Of", but it was too similar (almost exactly the same) to the original that we stopped, because it was boring. We already knew what was going to happen. It's a shame HBO couldn't write a new story as if to be a third season of "Criminal Justice". I definitely recommend "Criminal Justice" over "The Night Of".
What a fantastic beginning. The tension that is held throughout the episode is awesome.
This miniseries is exceptional, with great acting and a captivating, realistic story. John Turturro delivers his best performance yet. It was a pleasure to see Michael K. Williams in a substantial role and a few memorable scenes with J.D. Williams. Riz Ahmed, who later starred in the impressive 'Sound of Metal,' is fantastic here. Highly recommended for its engaging narrative and stellar performances.
This is very impressive tv. And a more realistic view of the police and prosecutors office. Tense, menacing, unscrupulous, presumptuous, there are moments of despair and yet it still lands without rose tinted visions.
The show starts off strong with episode 1 easily being the highest point of the entire season. From there on a combination of dumb character choices (i.e Naz's relationship with the lawyer, Naz's transformation in prison with the shaved head, drugs and tattoos in the midst of a trial) and the courtroom drama with a resolution that seemed a little bit too easy bogged down the show to an underwhelming drama.
Another great show from Hbo with nice Character's development and tricky story.Reccomended for everyone who loves mystery and slow burn tv shows. 7.8/10
I love miniseries and this one is one of my favorites. You can and will finish it in one day. so gooood
You must watch this mini series!
Story, Pictures, Music - 100%
Worth watching. Though be warned that the first episode is easily the highlight of the entire show. I found the rest of the show to be a disappointment in comparison to the first episode (despite all of it being good). The first episode gave me high hopes, as it seemed like the show was doing something a little bit different. But I found that as the show continued, it ended up being just like other shows in this genre. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it was still better than a lot of other similar shows, but I was disappointed in what I thought was wasted potential after the fantastic first episode.
There's also an argument to be made that the show dragged on too long and was a bit slow at times. I never found myself bored watching it, but I do agree there were probably parts that could have been trimmed down. This show is basically just a remake of a BBC show called 'Criminal Justice'. The BBC show is only 5 episodes long, whereas this show is 8 episodes. I think that tells you that this show could easily have been a couple of episodes shorter. All in all, 'The Night Of' is still a really good season of television, and I'd say it's worth watching.

Absolutely solid. Cast was outstanding and story was stellar.

A very well executed, developed, and written series. I'm not sure there is another show that has progressed slowly, but still held my attention quite like this one. I particularly enjoyed how attentive to sound the show is. How scenes intermingle what is happening, through sound, or how something in one scene, stays with you into the next. A unique flavor of producing that I enjoyed.
I have to give credit to both the writers and the actors, for me still not being sure who I think committed the murder. We see Naz has the capability and maybe even tendency to losing himself in aggression, but yet that doesn't make sense in the circumstances he is charged with. Again, I think this being left hanging in the air was a wise and tasteful choice by the makers, and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of character development.
Wow, what a disappointment from the last episode. Actors were good, but I was bored the whole serie. I think that only 7th episode was good, that I have some feelings from watching it.
Brilliant ending they leave you with the idea that he may have done it.
Exciting & entertaining... Awesome!
Riz is sooo handsome!
Probably one of the very best television series I have ever seen, a MUST watch.

I saw this show on reddit of being one of the best from 2016 and after the first episode , I was hoocked! , The feeling that you get from the beginning regarding how the system works, is a harsh one , you are always wondering why the hell is this poor guy in this situation, was it really worth it? did he do it but doesn't remember? the slow pace gives you the anxiety of Naz , the lazy cop and lazy detective makes you angry at the system and only the poor itchy lawyer gives a damn about him. Great mini series , worth every episode.
Anxiety. Anxiety. Anxiety. Full of anxiety!
A great tv show! The dark atmosphere, the few dialogues, the fantastic interpretation of Turturro and his "eczema".. All this and much more make 8 episodes simply fantastic!
Awesome show can't wait for the next season
Cara que serie incrível, atores ótimos e trilha sonora muito boa, vale muito a pena assistir
Don't do drugs, kids!
Excellent show, cat was MVP
What a fantastic series this was. Incredibly atmospheric throughout and some great camera work. John Turturro's character was amazing - what an actor he is. Loved the whole storyline and the message it portrayed. It went one way then the other and never stopped throughout. I must watch Criminal Justice!
I LOVE how satisfying the tv could be when it's this good!
After finishing the first season, I insanely love the show. I enjoyed every second of the show. what a clever title and opening. And John Tuttorro, what a amazing performance.
What a great show! John Tuttorro was amazing in this show! Also, I think it is one of Michael K Williams strongest performances to date! This is going to win a bunch of awards I'm sure, and deservingly so. I Think the single season(6-8 episodes) is the way all TV is going... It is a great format that lets you delve deeper into characters than a stand alone movie allows, but doesn't get watered down by stretching story lines beyond what was originally concepted.
when I started watching the first episode I kind of thought where is this going, but after watching 40 minutes I was hooked! I'm excited for the next episode, I love the show, I love the characters and how its directed. 10/10
This Goodis every verry good
Three episodes in and I am looking forward to the next episode. this started off really well with excellent performances from the actors making the characters believable.
I underestimated the pilot episode, wasn't expecting it to be as riveting but it's actually pretty solid.

I watched the 1st episode of “The Night Of” when HBO previewed it early. The acting and production quality are very good, but overall it moved along rather slowly. When the episode ended, I found it good enough continue when the series formally starts — but didn’t mind waiting.
I read somewhere that “The Night Of” was actually a remake of a 2008 British mini-series “Criminal Justice”. The remake is 8 episodes, the original is 5 episodes. I watched the 1st episode of the BBC production to compare.
Noticeable immediately was the quicker pace of the story. Much more engaging when it hasn’t been stretched out with 3 hours of additional material. I also prefer the way the original suggests undesirable elements of the criminal justice system in general rather than the emphasis on racial profiling of “The Night Of” remake.
Now that I’ve watched the story as originally told, I have no desire to watch the HBO version. Based on the first episodes, I’ve seen the better one and have moved on to season 2 of BBC’s “Criminal Justice” -- different cast and story, and just as good as the first season.
