The cat lived. That's all that mattered to me.
Nah, but for real, this was a tremendously incredible show. Ignore what the other commenters said; this is my highest rated show by far.
i wanted to see a different ending where it goes all out and they bring the boyfriend or whatever and i kept holding my breathe the last 20 mn thinking something bad gonna happen to nasir or something until they roll the credits but it still a good ending to it.
Although it was great TV, I was disappointed in this show overall. It started out so promising. Episode one was a fantastic pilot episode, one of the best and most gripping I've seen in a while. But after episode one, the show just sort of diverged and ended up as your regular sort of crime/prison drama. It was done very well, and it's better than many of the other shows of its kind, but the first episode had me hoping for something better, something different.
Oh I’m surprised reading the comments that didn’t like the ending cause I really did! It wasn’t full on shock, horror or thriller but that wasn’t what this show was about, it was raw, real and heartbreaking!
I actually find that verdict as the most clever way to go, cause a not guilty/acquitted verdict was too good to be true, and a guilty verdict would make this a prison drama! Also when he went back to the prison to collect his things I was afraid he was gonna get killed! So this way yeah he is free but no one believes he is innocent, not even his mom, so there’s gonna be doubt forever.
And his last scene back in the river? Yeah it broke me, and I couldn’t stop crying, the second he left his house again I was like oh no, there’s no coming back, so seeing him back in the place where he lost everything and he had no idea of what was coming that October night, his family, future, career, everything is ruined.
And also everyone else, who was :pound_symbol:TeamNaz, deserved so much better, cause we can agree there were no happy endings, except for the cat! Lets start with Chandra, she was a good lawyer! When she interrogated Andrea’s stepfather it was so good that if I was part of the jury I would’ve totally changed my mind about Naz being guilty! And obviously she deserved better than being fired and disbarred, I think she saw the same thing on Naz that John and Freddy saw, but she mistook it for love, I kinda get her reasoning of putting him on the stand, cause she wanted everyone to see what she sees in him and I kinda think it worked, and I get smuggling a couple of pills for him to be at his best, but nope I’m not inserting any coke balls in my vag for any man or any client! However her being reprimanded actually led to the best scene of the show, John’s closing statement!!! Honestly he deserved more credit and more respect!! Everyone was always mocking him when he actually got the job done! And that eczema trip was interesting and actually led to something, John being all fcked up during the most important moment of his career, but his speech was so moving and realistic, like “the man you see today is product of the justice system” so I’m sad about Chandra but so glad John gave the statement cause he was the only one who could have done it!
And then there’s Freddy... I know this is actually sick but I’m sad they didn’t say goodbye, cause even tho he was a -idk how to describe him, evil? problematic? smart?- he also was Naz’s prison guardian angel! Without him Naz wouldn’t be alive but also without him Naz wouldn’t be complicit of a few new crimes or maybe there would be another Freddy? But yeah I kinda disliked that Naz wasn’t more explicitly thankful to Freddy yeah I know it was fcked up but the only thing Naz had to do was poop so it wasn’t that bad. Also I didn’t quite get why F sent the tape to John, I guess it was cause he knew it had grounds for mistrial? Yeah I guess that makes sense, cause I was thinking it was for the opposite reason, but if he wanted to affect him, he would’ve sent that tape to the prosecution, not to John, so he was willing to let go his friend? WOW I think Freddy is one of the most complex interesting controversial characters I’ve seen.
And I’m lucky watching this now cause I think last year an hbo executive confirmed who the killer was, so now I don’t have any doubts, it kinda clicked to me in the last episode remembering how he was so quick to point the finger to Andrea’s stepdad and how he seemed so helpful and like he had all that info but never bothered to share it, I just wished they had incorporated those tiny little clues from the first episode, like I never noticed Andrea was looking over her shoulder, so maybe just a slightly more obvious mention here and there and it would’ve been a perfect ending!
The preponderance of circumstantial evidence in the first episode was kind of ominous and heartbreaking to see. The preponderance of exculpatory evidence for the final episode was just a bit too much for me to believe. (Not a lawyer, hoping I got those terms right).
In the end, it ends up being a fairly standard crime drama that moves at a really slow pace - something I'd normally not watch. I'll give it credit that it kept me interested and watching to the end, but all told I didn't find anything special other than Turturo.
really enjoyed this series. kept me on my toes the entire time. suspected almost everyone, including the cat. actually got thrown by the 'yellow king' being the judge, first instinct was to think he somehow did it. still don't get why the hell the lawyer woman kissed naz out of nowhere or smuggled drugs for him in her vag, weird as hell. i guess for the same reason the dead chick was into getting cut with a knife? crazy women amiright? funny stuff. on a serious note, i stopped being bothered by how much screen time and focus the itchy problem and the cat had gotten, in the end i really felt for the poor guy, and him taking the cat back was a nice touch. i still don't know why the badass dude from the prison (i'm bad with names okay) sent the dvd, i guess he was trying to help, but it's still strange for him to get involved like that for someone he barely knew. then again, it's human to want to build connections, even in such harsh surroundings as prison, maybe especially there. the weirdest thing is that naz got released even without the evidence of the ex's involvement. but that's the jury court for you. makes as much sense as the american electoral system. but anyway, was a bit disappointed that naz didn't remember what transpired during his blackout. would have been kind of cool if he was free but remembered that he actually did kill her. but then again, that would have been some cheap drama pulled just for the shock value. the show isn't about twists and turns. it's a pretty human story, a big irrational at times just like people are in real life. in the end was the main character, shunned, addicted and corrupted both on the outside and the inside, really absolved? we don't know for sure that the other guy will be proven guilty, so there's a chance that he and his parents will forever wonder now if he actually committed the murder. either way, nothing will be the same for him now. does he deserve it for chasing some hot piece of ass, taking drugs and playing dangerous games just to appear cool and to get in the chick's pants? well who's there to decide, but either way it was really fucking stupid. and on that note i'm gonna leave this stream of consciousness and fuck off.
Most ppl found the finale anticlimactic, although I would be inclined to agree I also found it refreshing because it was an ending that was more true to real life; Not a happily ever after fairy tale ending you would normally get.
What a disappointing ending to an otherwise tense show. I hated the ending, however cudos to the last shot of the cat.
That last scene made me happy and sad at the same time :)
I cannot agree with the others here. I thought this was a very fitting and a wonderful finale. Lots of suspense until the last moment of the trail.
Great finale IMO. By far the best show off the year, so far. Each extended scene in this episode was so gripping. Wow!
second best show of the year ( after Stranger Things ) .
American Crime Story still is the best jury drama of the year. The Night Of was a series of more lows than highs.
Fantastic series overall, but I was a little let down by this episode. I'm surprised it has such a high rating.
Great series but thought this final episode was a little soft. Was waiting for a "Keyser Soze" moment that never came.

Bit of an anticlimax in the end.
