The OA 2016

One of THE most original, emotional, underrated series I have ever seen. Netflix choosing not to continue the story is an absolute TRAVESTY. For a show that inspires belief, faith and hope, I believe I’ll still see this story told eventually.

If you’re thinking about checking it out despite its untimely cancellation, do it. Yes... it’s complex and deep, but you’ll be all the better for it once the final credits roll.

See ya again in another dimension, OA. (But I’m still holding out in this one.) :blue_heart:

A very suspenseful thriller, with lots of messages being bombarded at the viewer. Very tense and intriguing. Can be a little slow at times, but well worth a watch :thumbsup_tone1:

loading replies

Absolutely terrible. It starts off alright, but the finale of season 1 murdered the show for me entirely.

loading replies

I can't believe this show ended :'( I was waiting for season 3 every day, checking for the date when we will get it... And I suddenly saw it ended... Unfair. Unfair...

wooow season two blow up .... pretty well made loved it :heart_eyes:

The 2nd season is incredible, it blew ouf minds!!!
We need to see the story going on!!!

It has been a while since a show has gripped my attention as much as The OA has. I binge watched both seasons back to back and was glued to the TV until the end of the second part. And then I rewatched the whole series a few days later. The way that the show has developed its characters and the fact that it continues to surprise with its mind boggling twists is truly amazing. The multiple universes premise has always fascinated me but not many shows have been able to portray it as well but I think The OA is on the right path. Kudos to Brit Marling and Batmanglij for a job well done. I simply can’t wait for more seasons. The long hiatus between the seasons doesn’t matter as long as they come up with a great storyline as they have in the past two parts.

loading replies

Wow, that was really great!

The first two episodes seem slow but they're simply not action packed and prove to be just as important as what comes after.

Some characters are not developed as well as the main ones but I can overlook it since they weren't gonna play a larger role than they eventually did.

The only reason I'm not surprised at the ending it's because I've watched the previous works by the duo, especially "Sound of My Voice", which presents a similar story though in a arguably darker light.

I've watched both Seasons and wishing the last 3 seasons weren't cancelled by Netflix. But so far, to me, this seems like the most viable explanation of the universe. Certainly more viable than the God theory.

if you didn't much like the first season, take an extra time to watch s2e1-e2. it will start to make sense. and it will only get better from there, i promise you. after s1 i wasn't sure if i wanted to continue, but i did, and i totally fell in love with the show by the end of s2. give it a shot, if you have any doubts. enjoy watching!

loading replies

Very bummed to hear that Netflix has decided to not renew the show for its third season.

loading replies

I truly think that this show is a hidden gem that more people should know about. It’s so good and i only know of me and my bff that have watched it. The first season is definitely a thriller, but the second season is, for lack of better words, super meta. I highly recommend!!

loading replies

absolute masterpiece that didn’t get the time it deserved to tell its story. the creators planned out 5 seasons from the beginning and didn’t get the chance to see their story fully realized.

loading replies

A masterpiece of an ovni...

loading replies

I absolutely loath when series don't end. The story is not complete and this was a very interesting story.
I would have given it 10 stars if they had finished the story.

loading replies

Anyone from another dimension, in which The OA was brought to an end, who can bring any sense at all to it? Nope? Nevermind!

loading replies

It's sad that this show didn't get to do the five seasons it originally planned and instead ended up being cut off at 2 because I believe with more air time this show could've been phenomenal but as it stands it was ok.

The first season was weird and confusing - the second season was better. I do believe that Brit Marling shines in her role as Prairie Johnson. One of the main things I didn't like was the movements, it just came across as cringe most of the time and I just don't think they needed to be included. However, this was what really well throughout both seasons so that is always a bonus.

loading replies

Damn… it was unbelievable genious…that last 10 minutes…. Woow

loading replies

Solid show. The pacing isn't always the best.

loading replies

I really don't know, I still need to watch the last 3 episodes but it's really unlike me to not finish something, yet this really feels like a burden to finish. Listening to Brit Marling in this is like nails on a chalkboard to me, and then there's this weird octopus thing and ugh, the first season wasn't terrible, the second one is awful so far, so I can't recommend investing in this at all.

loading replies

Season 1 was a big wtf, but season 2 got so much better that it all made sense in the end. Can't wait for season 3

loading replies

This might be the weirdest show I've ever seen. Very curious to see how they'll do season 2.

loading replies

So this show is about excuse of bullies?

Anyway to sum it up - it is like Stranger things. Stranger things season 2 maybe. But with the added element of making excuses why bullies deserve to live.

loading replies

I'm hooked, watching the 1st episode gradually got me interested. Sometimes the gradual appeal, is more rewarding in the end. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a religion show, towards the end.

loading replies

Great series, absolutely loved it from start to finish.

loading replies

I just watched the first episode of the series. I did not notice and was surprised to see that the episodes are 60 minutes (I like the format). The plot is intriguing and I was completely glued to the screen. I'll give my 9/10 rating. Very good!!!

loading replies

For some reason I was hooked and thrilled through all the episodes. Albeit, very confused at the end.

loading replies

Wanted to quit after second episode. Kept watching and enjoyed the next four or five. Now first season is over and i regret watching it. Waste if time. No conclusion or satisfying end, not even a good cliffhanger.

loading replies

For me, the main idea seems to be a parallel with religions. The cafeteria scene shows how strong a ritual can be in order to encourage people to do brave things while linked to brothers in faith. The whole series kind of play with the start of a religion, with followers, miracles (sight recovery and men coming back to life), fantasy stories mixed with real facts, rituals to reach a higher sphere (be it a Lord's prayer or any other collective ritual), and how this can change people lives, even when they get to be challenged by the reason or science. Very refreshing subject!

loading replies

This is possibly the weirdest and yet somehow compelling television show I have had the utter confusion to watch. I honestly don't know where to start commenting on it, but I have to say that it is strangely addictive. There are seriously WTF moments that I did not expect but was hooked enough to keep watching the next episode, then the next and the next. It's damned odd but seriously unforgettable.

loading replies

There were some interesting ideas, but overall it's just not my cup of tea. And the season finale was really disappointing.

The writing is shit, the acting is shit, plot is kinda intriguing but turns to shit.

This was awesome and held me spellbound. With her story Prairie helped 5 other people become better persons and make them realize they and their actions matter. By doing the dance at the end the chosen 5 worked together and saved many lives.

loading replies

If the last episode didn't exist The OA would be awesome. The end really destroyed it for me...

loading replies

Proper crap. Tried riding on the band wagon of stranger things. Basically a strange 8hr Yoga lesson.

loading replies

Did not understand a shit. Especially the last scene of the last episode. Are they all drugged-out from the beginning?

loading replies

This was really worth it. Brilliant plot! One of the rare shows that really focuses on the narration of the story instead of the characters interactions.
This show is, I believe, just as one of its lines; "it's not really a measure of mental health to be well adjusted in a society that's very sick".
In this sense, it'll probably be undervalued as a price to it's specific type of audience, as opposed to funny, sex, business, law, space, or any of the shallow but mainstream, fast-food kind of TV shows.
The Mystery kind requires time, attention, the ability to let oneself lost and guided deeper, without the usual expectation state of our 'instant gratification' society.
That being said, the ending felt very hasty. It already started with the 7th episode, which served to dilute the intensity and add some drama for supposedly a better season finale, unfortunately it was poorly made and produced some bitter aftertaste. It doesn't change the fact that this show is Very Good, and only a step away from being Excellent!
Do make time and give it a try !

I'll skip season 2. season 1 was bad. not interested anymore. lot of other shows to go.

loading replies

so the first season was quite a 5-6, mostly boring. should I start season 2?

I'm rating it a 7 for now. I will admit that I only started this for Jason Isaacs, but I did stay for the intriguing story (and Steve's character, which I thought was interesting). Not too sure about the ending - didn't really hate it or love it, just meh about it. One thing I want to say - some of the acting and writing here was really bad. At certain points, it really felt like actors were just reading off a script, including the main character. I tend to have this problem a lot with Netflix shows for some reason.

loading replies

I literally wasted hours of my life for what was probably the worse script ever. The season finale just made absolutely no sense at all. Random events - pretending they're well thought of. Geesh

loading replies

Pretty much nothing about this show makes any sense. It's easy to assume, early on, that it's going somewhere interesting. It isn't.

Don't waste your time.

loading replies

Really liked the show. Makes you think and speculate. Although, I hope there will be a 2nd season, as the finale left way too many questions ambiguous, which is kinda frustrating.

I stopped watching this after they tried to stop a school shooter by interpretive dance.

Crappy show
Waste if time

loading replies

I like it and I don't like it. I love the part where they're story telling and they show the other part with the kidnapping and sci-fi part. I hate the other side of the OA with the high school kids. I'm interested in seeing where season 2 will head towards.

loading replies

This show made me feel somehow validated, confused, then betrayed, and more confused. It wasn't fast, and I still don't understand it, but it got steadily more complex and kept me interested in the ride.

If you liked the X-Files, and Stranger Things, give this a shot and be prepared to be patient through the slow start. If unexplained mysteries irritate you, or you will always pick the latest superhero movie over an arthouse feature, ymmv. Either way, watch with a friend so you can yell about it afterwards.

loading replies

Boring with completely nonsensical sinarios.

loading replies

Couldn't watch past the fourth episode.
The special effects are just disapointing, and the message behind the show started to feel a little too religious to me. By the begining of the fourth episode it became cringy, I wouldn't recommend watching this!

loading replies

After finishing "blood" series season 1, i am here. I watch series season by season. After finishing season 1 of OA, i will move to another series.

I chose this series because i need mystery and science-fiction. And it seems episodes are long.

I hope i can enjoy.

I will copy this to also season 1 and episode 1 reviews.

loading replies

9 stars from me. I loved this series much more than the first episodes had me expecting.

Some people seem to be fairly confused as to what the point of this series was. Without saying too much, I'll say this, which might steer you in the right direction: if you were to force a label on me, I'd have to say I'm "agnostic", and yet this show was still great for me.

loading replies

Pretty good, especially early on. Seems like the story was padded to achieve 8 episodes, could've easily been fully executed in 6 or less. Some really good concepts between all the filler. Towards the end of the final episode there was a random 'group-dance' scene that didn't make a whole lot of sense -- like the dancing could impart the antagonist with sudden mental health, but they forgot to tell us about that side effect in all those episodes before. An assumption on my part, as there wasn't a clear explanation of the purpose of the flashdance. Extensive use of a dual-timeline, more than I would've liked.

My favorite parts by far were everything with Phyllis Smith from "The Office (US)"... ;-)

loading replies

Amazing show. Goosebumps at the end. If you feel the need to lash out negatively perhaps it was just too confusing for you. I'm sure there's a Real Housewives of Orange County episode calling out to you and will calm you right down.

I can’t believe Netflix is cancelling the OA...this has given myself and so many others a glimpse of what might be after we transition after these lives we occupy...Brit&Zal thank you so much for the experience of a lifetime and many to come, your writings are as detailed as you yourselves have experienced this or had a glimpse into the afterlife..these stories will inspire and open so many hearts and minds to the fact of us going on after we leave this plain or dimension..I’ve read an incredible book by the author Anita Moorjani called Dying to be me,this book opened up my eyes ,I would recommend to reading it,also another author Cathy Byrd..The boy who knew too much

It's funny how people are confused This series is The OA no The O.C

loading replies

Either one of the best things I've watched recently or the worst I haven't decided yet. Mind blowing in many ways and baffling in others. Give it a look and decide for yourself.

loading replies

Watched the first two episodes.
Rather boring and nonsensical. The characters were not realistic, show too long and consisted of little actual material and lots of filler.
I would give it a swerve.

loading replies

This is pretty bad, don't waste your time watching this.
