First episode is atrocious. Choices from characters (and plot) are stupid.
After a couple of episodes it is a little bit better, but it is a bad tv show. Not decent enough to have a second season and low standard to be "by Netflix".
very enjoyable show, i would love to see a second season!
the acting was decent, so kudos to each actor in portraying their character. characters that were flawed; they made as many stupid decisions as they made good ones.
but honestly, i loved that this show was more character driven than action driven + the backstories really added depth to each of the characters. i started out disliking all of them and ended up caring for everyone. A+ in that aspect.
the CGI was surprisingly well done and despite it only being 8 episodes, the story did not feel rushed.
definitely worthy of being on netflix tyvm. also this is the first danish tv show i've truly enjoyed watching. well done denmark<3
Absolutely terrible show. The characters are way too idiotic to the point you kinda wish they would die in the show. Especially Rasmus
Yet another survival show but this time a group of people are surviving a virus outbreak which is actually in the Rain. A small plot being dragged for 8 episodes and it doesnt even have a proper ending or any twists where you want to look out for a second season. Could have been better. 5/10
I truly can't recommend this tv show to anybody that doesn't want to be thoroughly insulted by it's mediocre content. This is "The Walking Dead" but without any of the suspense. All characters are thoroughly undeveloped despite this show having LOST esque flashbacks in an attempt to make you care about their backstories. It certainly doesn't help that their isn't a single decent actor so you can at least feel like maybe these people are suffering in some way.
The Rain had one major hook going for it, and the writers even managed to blow their load on that before the ending of season 1.
This show is a hard pass. Don't waste your time.
After the awfully terrible first season I almost gave up on this show. The second season is such a MASSIVE improvement!
Forget the haters; this is a better 'survival' story than most. With characters to care for, and a fairly compelling story arc, this is one series that, despite the rain, isn't a total washout!
My god I can't stand it, they're just so incredibly dumb.
No charisma, no actors, no plot. I dropped in the middle of the 3rd episode. Massive loss of time.
It's hard to watch this show without being triggered. It might be a good show overall -- But damn! There's such a high level stupidity in the first episode that might come off as suspenseful or entertaining for other people but not for me.
Sorry guys, I had to throw the towel in on this one.
The first episode did have some strange behaviour from the characters as if they suddenly hasn't experienced a trauma before they rushed headlong confidently to suffer yet another. I also get the nagging suspicion that if this situation were real they'd be wearing scuba suits by day or at least broad brimmed hats and gloves to keep off the rain if there was a light shower.
Are you wondering if you should watch ”The Rain”? If so, you have to really ask yourself, what is most important to you?
I’m a real sucker for apocalyptic stories and themes. If the atmosphere and the ambience are where they need to be, I can forgive a lot when it comes to bad plots. And The Rain is all about the atmosphere.
There are actors and actresses who have some actual talent. The scenery is enjoyable, there are no outlandish Hollywood action scenes, all the teenage characters somehow are not super annoying, and the apocalyptic feel is mostly achieved in just the right ways. But the plot. The godawful holes, inconsistencies and omissions are hard to swallow, even for me, especially in the first episodes.
It gets better the further you get. You really should watch at least half of them before giving up. All the characters involve backstories or backflashes and somehow they made me care. Somehow I ended up identifying most with the ones who are least like me – or like the person I usually think I am. The apocalypse in The Rain is very important, for sure, but I could see how many in the audience would think of it as a character study.
In conclusion, the script is super… simple, really. There is only so much stuff you can put in eight shortish episodes. The characters aren’t the most complicated ones in fictional history, and there have been some better apocalypses on the TV screen. But when, after watching the conclusion, I ask myself if I cared, if I had feelings for it, and if I liked it… I have to answer Yes. Yes, I did. Maybe you will, too.
Weak at most, acting is dreadful and the plot is unoriginal, just a zombie show without the zombies. Characters make no sense and there's no development at all. It does entertain a bit, especially because of the visuals, but I'm not sure I'll be watching season 2 (if there ever is one)
the first episode is rotten bad. The story is predictable and stupid. The little boy is a pain in the ass.
Too bad but there has to be more in the pilot to keep me on it .
let's start by saying that this is no "perfect show"
it has its flaws, some are annoying (like some characters decision making) and some are boring (i found some scenes just...kind of hard to watch. mainly because they were not that interesting)
so yeah, if you are going to watch this show it's not like you will finish it and say damn that is now my favorite show of all time or I mean you can but that means that it's probably your first tv series or something lol
what I do have to say is this: the show does a really good job of making you feel the "weight" of certain events. You always assume important characters would have plot armor because, well, they are the most important and they get characterized the most...you can't really characterize a dead body anymore, except for a couple flashback maybe.
What I'm trying to say is that usually important characters in dangerous situations don't feel interesting because you know they are going to make it, but here...they die. Like, you think they are gonna be fine but then they die. And everybody feels it. The weight of someone's death is really really felt in this show, even more in the end.
a lot of important characters die in this show, some have very meaningfull deaths, other have deaths that feel much less "orchestrated" but that's great because you don't always go out in crazy ways. sometimes you just die and that's it.
and since the show wasn't afraid of just killing off anybody really, they were able to really surprise me. they really caught me off guard quite a bunch of time.
if you love the concept of a virus in the rain killing people, give this show a watch. it shifts more on the virus itself later but it's still a cool concept and even thought the story isn't perfect it can be enjoyed and it's not even that long, like season 3 is 6 episodes, A LOT of stuff happens in those 6 episodes but it's really not that long of a series.
Awesome show, and i'm just done watching season 3 (last season) and it was perfect.
While not without its charms, The Rain is filled with moments where you'll be wondering "why did they do that", "couldn't they have just...", "they dont seem to be very upset about that person dying", why are they so upset about this person dying" or just "why?!"
Season 1
Too much off this show fails to make sense or is just plain convenient, even from the very start, when dad is speeding along the motorway and turns to speak to his painfully annoying son - the daughter and mum were somehow failing to get him to put his seat belt on. This error of judgement sees dad have a near miss with a truck, the truck in turn tries to swerve but topples onto it's side neatly blocking the road. Dad decides that the family will go on foot and by the magic of editing they seem to make very good time which makes it seem like it was probably better than driving anyway.
Throughout the show people who have been living in the zone for years and are very aware of the dangers, dont seem to have developed any good strategies for preserving their safety - beyond very basic plans such as getting to cover before it rains, the rain that never seems to catch them by surprise as rain often does in real life. apparently these people have all become experts at reading weather patterns and can move around with confidence that not even a drop of the deadly rain will land on them. Perhaps this shared expertise in meteorology is so advanced and obvious that they don't even need to acknowledge it.
Nobody has every heard of checking someone's vital signs, as they all posses that special film expertise of being able to confidently asses someone's vitals just by looking at them for a moment.... Don't pass out or you might be assumed dead and left behind.
Most of the characters spend a good portion of the series being quite annoying, Beatrice being the only one whose character seems more interesting, or at the very least more consistentantly likable and as such the only character I felt any genuine concern for. I actually think some of the reviews are too harsh on the acting, while it's sometimes patchy I think the poor script is to blame.
Season 2
I was considering whether it was worthwhile putting myself through another seasons of this show and read the other reviews here. The general feeling seemed to be that season 2 was a big improvement so I decided to give it a bit more time. Season 2 was in fact much better even if not without moments of season 1's silliness - one of my favourites was when someone thinks they have been locked in a room. It's been well established that it has keypad entry but they try and open the door with the handle and freak out thinking their suspicions are confirmed. Of course the door wouldn't have opened with the code anyway so when they do eventually punch the code in they find that it has been jamed shut.
Lea and Jean thoroughly irritate me through both seasons and I find their dysfunction is much harder to watch than other characters... Why are the plants dying, I'm So depressed... then, wow you fixed the plants... then I want to destroy all the plants... blah blah blah.
While better than season 1, 2 does devolve into a bit of a weepy soap opera at times. Most of the rain in season 2 seems to be from all the blubbering.
If they make a season 3 I'll probably keep watching as it felt like it was just becoming good at the very end.
So many plot holes. Idiotic acts from the characters and it seems the characters can always predict when the rain will come. No protection what so ever and they jump inside just before the 1st drop lands. Every god dmn time? And a puddle is dangerous but damp grass not? So bad writing. Its a shame. had more potential. Will i see season 2. Not sure yet. I want it to be better next time.
Probably the worst writing I've come across for absolutely dumb characters, rasmus is dumbest of them all,it's hard to watch but invested time now,he wants to die because his girlfriend of 2 minutes died geeezzz and she was a tart at best playing both men glad she bit the dust best thing to happen yet,and the acting just overall isn't good enough probably the worst I've come across
This is so bad! The plot seems to be about making the largest number of bad decisions. Characters do something, change their mind, do the opposite and move on to repeat the cycle again.
Poor show overall. I managed one and a half season because of my kids wanting to watch it but then i had to stop before throwing myself into a wood chipper covered in poison ivy, rabid skunks and salt.
The plot is stupid and plot holes are all over the place.
The characters are like toddlers let loose in a toys and razor blade store, they never think about consequences or if anything makes more sense than the dumbest thing they could possibly come up with. They make the characters in Monty Python's "Upper class twit of the year" sketch seem like totally reasonable people on the top of their game making smart things and solving world problems
The characters are really weak and you don't get any connection to them at all. I didn't care at all if any of them died except the one they actually killed of early (Beatrice) which was the only character with any actual life, humanity and depth. All other characters are dull, one dimensional and flat and does whatever the dumbest thing in the current situation would be. Character development is all over the place and people change moods, goals and aspirations as they see fit as long as it's dumb and goes against the characters nature.
Didn't finish, will never finish. Definitely will not rewatch.
I never got past the first episode because it is in a different language with English. I hate that. Just like with the show 3%. Same thing. Even if it's a great show, if they're not speaking English I won't watch it.
It's not an American blockbuster, but maybe that's its advantage. Thanks to this, the characters are more human, they act less, are full of flaws, they aren't supermodels or superheroes and closer them to us than to Hollywood "John". Coupled with a rather good storyline idea it can be watched.
Terrible series and a waste of time. Lazy writing, at the last season there is no likeable characters, major inconsistencies and plot holes, boring scenes, and boring drama.
Don't waste your time.
It´s plot hole after plot hole. I watched it just for that reason like..there is a very deathly virus going around and the amount of situations where they expose themselves for no reason is really high. Also, their decision making is questionable to be kind. 4/10
Not the end to the series I was expecting. Maybe why last season was only 6 eps.
I'm curious what a second season would be like.
I'm interested in the story but I am really not sure if there is anything for a second season. There has to be a really good plot twist if they make a second season. Otherwise, it will be really boring.
But still, I would like to see a second season.
Watched 2 episodes so far. Story is quite nice, the theme is similar to "The Walking Dead" or "Resident Evil". I like the scandinavian nature shots. Characters are fair so far. Could be a deeper development, but lets see where this goes.
I liked it. In some episodes is easy to see where the story is heading to (we've seen so many times before) but still it keeps some suspense.

We expected way more. It somehow felt like some kind of cheap knockoff of Resident Evil. Without the evil but a similar virus. Character development didn‘t exist and the storyline seems to miss something.
The bad synchronization and even worse subtitles that didn’t even match what they say made it even worde to watch. Expected more by a Netflix production.
