I'll admit, I started off a little confused for the first four or so episodes. But I started to become appropriately aware of what was going on and enjoyed it more afterward. I'm definitely going to rewatch it from the beginning because I'm sure I'll view it with a different light now that I'd know what's going on from the start.
OK, who else is getting the vibe that this was meant to be a UK X-Men whodunnit story but they couldn't get the X-Men rights? I mean the description of EVAs and X-Men mutants sounds pretty similar... and then there's the Olivia Munn connection... ;)

I watched the first episode and it was a very definite Meh. Civil servants with a little bit of spookiness
I entirely missed why the series was made, so went away and read the book.
Then binge read the two books in the series, thinking wow, I have to watch The Rook.
So I watched The Rook again. And I still think Meh. It missed so much, it changed so much, it confused so much, that it lost it's magic
And I do have to call out how Gestalt was presented - more as a thugs than a devious hive mind
The only reason I could think of to cut back on the book so much was due to budget restrictions.
So full points on the TV Series generating some book sales (seriously, you should read them). And a slight sigh that this is another case of a book being badly adapted by a modern streaming service. Let's hope that this trend of quantity of quality goes away
And yes, I definitely want to see the series made into a proper series (or even a movie) - there is some awesome material waiting to become an great series. But it's not this one.
