[7.5/10 on a post-classic Simpsons scale.] This is a solidly built episode to be sure. The comedy definitely wanes in places, but the structure of the episode is good, and that helps.
The A-story, about Mr. Burns learning how to be a carefree billionaire from Mark Cuban is a little cheesy, even for someone like me who lives in Dallas and roots for the Mavs. Cuban at least has the good sense to be self-deprecating, and there’s a few good gags about Burns not knowing how to be fun, but it devolves into a lot of easy “Burns is really old” gags without a lot of novelty to them. Still, it moves the episode along well, and Burns trying and failing be relatable is venerable strain of humor for the show.
While the colony collapse material is a little dated, it at least feels on brand for Lisa. Similarly, while her having a beard of bees is a bit out there (though she’s following in Grampa’s footsteps), and Bart sculpting them is a bit cartoony, Marge’s concern for her daughter but ultimate efforts to help her feel in character.
And the two stories come together nicely, with Lisa’s bee sanctuary turning out to be the site for Burns’ new stadium. A Lisa vs. Burns clash is always a fun bit, and the way it gives the show the chance to poke some fun at basketball and fandom is fun. Homer and Moe’s scheme to “Africanize” the bees so they can survive is, again, a bit exaggerated, but works in context, and the gags during the bee invasion of the stadium are silly but a lot of fun. Finally, the button at the end, with Burns getting kicked out of the billionaire camp while the bees have a new home, is a nice grace note.
Overall, this isn’t an episode that will wow you, but it’s sturdy and has enough laughs to pass muster.

Decent episode, liked the environment story without it feeling forced.
