8.5/10. Pretty great for latter-day Simpsons. Showing the live action Dr. Doolittle was jarring and felt out of place, and Scotty Boom and family were pretty lame with the easy NYC gags, but otherwise there were a lot of fun running gags and callbacks and some solid laughs throughout. What's more, the missing smoker provided a solid story and gave us some of that good old fashioned Bart and Lisa detective work that's proved enjoyable in the past. Plus, Homer's despondency at losing the smoker, and the rest of the family's joining in was both a nice wrinkle to the story and also something that gave the episode some emotional stakes. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I wish Matt Selman was the showrunner for more episodes, because he tends to have a pretty stellar track record when it comes to modern episodes of the show.
