The Sopranos: Season 4

4x13 Whitecaps

Four seasons of marital tension blow up in one glorious episode. The scene in the home theater house in particular may be the peak of the series. The story with the lawyer is kind of weak, but all the Soprano family business was breathtaking. There's no mob violence, but Carmella and Tony continue taking shots at each other. Just such a raw, brutal episode that was wonderful in how it dove into the rot that had set in between husband and wife.

When nothing happens for an entire season and then David Chase basically drops this grand piano of an episode right on your head and you're like "David Chase, why would you drop that grand piano on my head" and he says "because it will get me an Emmy" and honestly he isn't wrong

Those scenes with Tony and Carmela were amazing.

Edie Falco (Carmella) performance was applaudable. Ending secen was most emotional one.

The glorious dissolution of a marriage, 4 years in the making

Carmela's side of this argument makes no sense.
Like Tony said you knew what this was. He's been sleeping around the entire marriage and now she want's to buck?
Furio smiles at her a couple times and she destroys her family and ruins the beach home purchase that was going to the kids?

On a side note I could never get married...can't have some house wife telling me to get out of the house I paid for.

[HBO] Possibly it is the least round season of all (and that is to be at a great height considering the level of the series), but at the same time it is one of the seasons in which things happen that are important for the development of the story, in relation to Ralphie, Chris but especially Tony's family nucleus. Meadow has a character development that makes her mature in her relationship with her family, and it is not yet clear if she will end up being a new Carmela or she will be able to detach from her environment.

And Carmela shows her acceptance of her as a housewife, as the wife of the mobster, but at the same time she becomes aware of the need to have her own independence, to think about a future in which, perhaps, she will have to take care of herself. The infatuation and disenchantment show a complex character, who has magnificent scenes in her final confrontation with Tony.
