I really do like slow burn Horror, but this is getting ridiculous. Over a third of the way through this story and there's been plenty of drama but next to zero scares. Maybe it's just me. I've seen so much Horror and as I've gotten older, there isn't much in the way of Movies or TV that I find scary at all. I will give the creators of this story credit for a unique setting, good atmosphere, and my gratitude for minimal gore and lack of jump scares (gore and jump scares are NOT scary). I really like the cast as well. Some fine acting. I'm just getting tired of waiting for something game changing to happen. At this point, the Japanese families are both victims of war and the supernatural. I expect something will turn the tables soon?
I'm really not feeling this season as much as the first, I understand they're different and I try not to compare them. But this just feels lacking in horror and tension and just feels replaced with drama, and it's good. But it's not horrifying like the first season. As a show about people imprisoned in camps during the war, it works decently, as a show about horror it kinda falls flat. I thought I was alone in this but after reading some other websites reviews I'm seeing similar sentiments.
The dialogue feels stilted and cliche, and not for lack of trying, but Chester is boring, the actor does a damn good job, but that character just feels boring.
I'm just not very compelled so far.
