The Twilight Zone

Season 1

Formatted writing, diversity propaganda, social justice : for sure, we are in 2020.
But where are sci-fi, fantasy and mistery ?

The worst Twilight Zone revival yet, Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone is a flaming dumpster fire. It seems unfathomable but Peele doesn’t get what the Twilight Zone is; using the platform to mercilessly push liberal social issues with no hint of subtlety (racist policing, open borders immigration, toxic masculinity). No ro-buts, or time-travel, or witchcraft, or deals with the devil. Additionally, the family friendly tone has been completely thrown out; as the episodes are laced with vulgarity. But all that could be forgiven if the writers could write a decent F*CKING PLOT TWIST! (which they can’t, except maybe for The Comedian). Still, there’s clearly love for the original series, layering in various references, Easter eggs and callbacks. And a number of impressive guest stars are featured, including Tracy Morgan, Adam Scott, John Cho, Ginnifer Goodwin, Seth Rogen, and Zazie Beetz. A tragic waste of talent and potential, Season 1 of The Twilight Zone is a clusterf*ck.

Only great episode was the guest appearance of Chris O’Dowd in the Blue Scorpion, although it was really him that made it good. They concentrated more on liberal diatribe than creating meaningful storylines with twists & sci-fi plots as per the original.

It is significant to recover a series like this today. Rod Serling's work was remarkable in his use of science fiction to deal with political issues and face censorship. But what was subversive in the original version becomes politically correct in the Jordan Peele's remake. So in the end the episodes are mostly trivial.
