The Vampire Diaries expands and enriches its mythology in an exciting and compelling third season. The histories of Damon and Stefan Salvatore are expanded upon, and the creation and lives of the original vampire clan are explored. Picking up a few months after the events of the Season 2 finale, Damon and Alaric search for Stefan and Klaus, who are attempting to raise an army of vampire/werewolf hybrids, but before long the Salvatores reunite and bring the war to Klaus and the other Originals. Season three has a very dense story that’s quite engaging and takes its characters on a thrilling journey. Ian Somerhalder in particular gives an exceptional performance, as his character is given new depth and dimension. There are some weak points in Season 3, but overall The Vampire Diaries continues to be one of the richest and most entertaining shows on television.

MY THOUGHTS ON SEASON 3:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
Another brilliant season. This show keeps on getting better and better. I hate that after each season I finish, I'm 1 season closer to the final one. I adore the entire cast and this season just solidifies why. Let's go into detail.
The Ghost Chapter: Ep 1 - 7
Starting off the first main plot point for the season was Jeremy and his new ability to see Ghosts. This brought back two previously dead characters: Vicki & Anna. Honestly I didn't care much for this, Jeremy for me is one of the weak points of the show, his character is so bland and they keep switching him up left and right like they don't know themselves what to do with him.
Bringing Anna back was a great surprise for me. I absolutely loved her character back when she was alive and kicking, it was just a shame she had to go. Vicki on the other hand never fails to annoy me. I can see why they brought her back but I don't know, wouldn't Jeremy be thinking about his parents more than Vicki & Anna? Overall the addition of Jeremy seeing Ghosts was interesting but it just didn't add much to me.
The Originals Chapter: Ep 8 - 15
Secondly we had our fun with The Originals and their plot line. Honestly, I shouldn't even have to go into detail at why this was so good, all of The Originals NEVER fail to impress me. Joseph Morgan is an absolute gift to The Vampire Diaries, alongside Daniel Gillies.
Bringing the entire family back was a great move for me, I loved seeing Mikael for what little time we did & Kol is incredible. Unfortunately I didn't care much for their mother. I really expected her to be the big bad witch of Mystic Falls but she really fell short.
The Bloodlines Chapter: Ep 16 - 22
Thirdly and finally we got introduced to the whole Bloodlines & how Vampire's descend from 1 Vampire and if you destroy that Vampire, you destroy the entire line. This was a good little plot point & the tension and worry it brought to the table was incredible. How could Damon & Stefan kill Niklaus if he was their "sire"?
We finally get rid of Niklaus's mother and THANK GOD. That felt so pointless, I know it was added for the whole family dynamic for The Originals but my God she was so disappointing. I feel like they really could have done much more with her than they did but unfortunately, they let me down.
A good part during the last few episodes was finding out Alaric is behind the murders. Alaric being one of my favourite characters this shocked me majorly like I honestly didn't see this coming. Best thing about this though was how great Matthew Davis can play a villain! Evil Alaric was great! I can't wait to see if Alaric is brought into any other trouble in season 4.
The last big point was the unfortunate death of Elena Gilbert. Will she back? Obviously. It was only a matter of time before she was going to become a Vampire. Hopefully this brings a bit of life to Elena though because I am so sick and tired of her running from Brother to Brother and acting like the damsel in distress whilst also acting like the heroine? It makes 0 sense. Fingers crossed Vampire Elena brings something new to the table for Season 4.
Overall I loved this season, yeah it had some bad points but what season doesn't? It kept me interested and entertained the entire time and I can't wait to get started on Season 4!
