TV shows fans: "man that 'Battle of Winterfel' episode was so dark, I couldn't see sh¡t for like 90% of the episode. I mean, the white WALKERS scene in the hallways was a bunch of blurs running on the screen... "
The Walking Dead se10ep9: "Hold my beer"
Fun drinking game, take a shot every time Alpha says the word "border" (or in her case "bordah").
There were definitely some nail-biting moments in this episode. I legitimately thought Jerry was going to be offed for that "Winnie the Pooh" like scenario he got himself into. Then again, the entire cave subplot is Carol's fault. I understand that she has been going through a lot, with losing Henry and ending things with Ezekiel - but goddamn. Her knee jerk reactions have been screwing everything up, and (possibly) getting people killed. Though I'm not convinced that Connie and Magna are dead, most likely just injured.
This was definitely the weirdest episode of TWD in a long time, but who doesn't like a little weird from time to time? Negan and Alpha DEFINITELY do...
[5.9/10] Usually I like TWD episodes with a clear goal. A group of survivors (including our two longest-running characters) are trapped in a cave with a heap of Walkers. They need to find a way out. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s a comprehensible problem and a straightforward objective. That should be the makings of what is, at least, a solid episode.
Unfortunately this isn’t it, because the conflicts are contrived and arbitrary and the solutions are a touch ridiculous. Stranded in a pit full of Walkers? That’s no problem! Everyone can just do some cave parkour where you’ll be conveniently out of reach of the zombies. Isn’t that a crawl space where our heroes can escape? It is! But Carol’s got debilitating claustrophobia for some reason! (Apparently she mentions it off-hand in a season 1 episode, but it feels pretty convenient to add friction to this event.) Oh, and heavy-set Jerry gets stuck right when some walkers show up! But then they pull him out and he’s fine! Didn’t even bite through his shoe!
It’s all such video game plotting with contrived problems and all too easy solutions. I’m definitely apt to give the show some willing suspension of disbelief, but this episode tries my patience there. The walkers and Whisperers show up exactly when needed and are dispatched as conveniently as the show needs them to be without pause or real stakes.
That said, while I thought the actual dialogue was middling, I liked Daryl and Carol’s conversation. I like the idea that Carol’s out of sorts after what happened with Henry and wants vengeance against Alpha, and I like the idea that Daryl’s noticed she’s off the reservation and wants her to just talk to him about what’s bothering her. This is an episode full of, as usually, tons of wooden conversations about this and that, but this one is good.
Were that the same could be said for the weird-as-hell Negan/Alpha stuff. Again, it’s way too tidy, but I like the idea of Negan having learned from his mistakes as a Savior, understanding that those close to you can betray you, warning Alpha, and being rewarded for it. The lines are badly written, but that’s a good idea and a good counterpoint to the cave nonsense. But good lord, why do we suddenly need to have them sleeping together? It feels like such a ridiculous and unnecessary choice, like something a teenager would come up with to make things more interesting. Weird and dumb.
The same goes for the rest of the adventures in the cave. I’d be lying if I said I cared about Magna’s latest fit, and it seems totally arbitrary and plot-based that Connie goes after the others and ends up trapped. But Kelly (and Angel Theory) does some of her best work here reaction to all of this. Granted, Carol’s whole dynamite plot feels ridiculous even if she is at her wits’ end, and once more comes off like something designed to move the next set piece in place rather than borne out of the characters’ history and personality.
But whatever. Most of our heroes escape. Now some are separated again. Now we can keep jumping around on the map and have the characters split up again until they reunite for the finale as usual. Whatever.
Overall, if this was supposed to be the big grand adventure that draws us in and gets us hyped for the back half of the season, it sputtered miserably. Instead, this is a series of painfully contrived situations, with a bizarre Alpha/Negan development to boot. Not inspiring.
I hate myself everytime I watch a new episode of this sht
What the hell am I watching. This show is soo bad.
The Carol storyline is tedious and momentum killing every second it’s on the episode. Only negative criticism of an otherwise stellar installment, but it is horrible. At this point I’d rather have a series favorite character of mine just get killed off than continue to be a drag.
Watch the first 10 min, skip to the last 5, the rest is pure trash.
By the way nice job completely ruining Carol in the last 2/3 seasons. She was one of the few that could do what was needed sometimes, being weird, but at least not retard. Now she's also retard, i guess it's contagious.
Ah and obviously the 2 inside would be dead in any somewhat realistic situation, but it's TWD so let's just wait for Daryl to save them because apparently he can just hang out in enemy territory alone.
Alright, I feel like this show as ran its course. It's time for them to start wrapping up storylines and killing off characters -- the eleventh season should be its last and final.
This was the worst episode yet. I was stunned about bad writing AND bad performance all throughout the episode.
Really, Carol? You go and do that dumbshit even after Daryl told you that your actions were going to get people hurt?
10 seasons... 10 years of Carol being so fucking annoying.... Why did they kill/make leave so many good characters instead of her??!!
I guess Carol is another character I can cross off the list of those I care about, as she's been insanely annoying this past season. That just leaves...Negan and Daryl? Can there really only be two characters left I watch this show for? Yikes.
Oh my LORD CAROL is pissing me off haha! She was such an incredible character in seasons 3-6 (and still fairly decent in 7-9) what happened
(9.5/10) - Despite many negative and less enthusiastic reviews, I believe that this is one of the best episodes so far this series. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was phenomenal, but I thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace and the cinematic journey that this episode gave us.
Although the plot wasn’t exactly brilliant, there were so many moments where I genuinely thought Carol was going to get certain people killed. I still love Carol even though she keeps getting in sticky situations with others and alone.
I am devastated that Connie may have died, as I thought her and Daryl would continue to form that great relationship that a lot of others could learn from and Magna also may be gone too, just after her fight with Yumiko.
The Negan and Alpha scene was probably the most disgusting moment in the entire show so far… I don’t understand what the hell that was all about but sure… I guess. I’m not going to go into detail about that but keep a pillow nearby for that!
This episode made me feel very claustrophobic and certainly kept me on the edge of my seat, so I believe it was super successful!
In this episode we watch Carol try to undo in a single episode all the good she did in the previous seasons. She also seems to have completely forgotten about her biological daughter.
You'll be lucky to see any of it though because the lighting team was inspired by Game of Thrones S08E03: The Long Night
By the way, the arrow carved in the rock was so perfect that anyone would say that it was carved with sculptor's tools (superfalse) and the rocks inside the mine-cave seemed to be made of prop resin, basically it looked like a chiquipark of adventure and climbing
I hope it gets better.
people still watch this crap show??
This episode reminded me of the horror movie The Descent. Very claustrophobic.
Carole became boring ... but what a disturbing scene between Negan & Alpha I loved it !!! A good episode

I only watched first 6 seasons
OH FFS NOT CONNIE. carol crying after as if she didn’t know before that this irresponsibility of chasing alpha would eventually get people (let alone herself) killed. what an idiot. almost surprised they even bothered going into the cave after she ran in.
i gotta say though that scene of them pulling jerry up the cave reminded me of that church scene in the outsiders of a character with the same name.
also that scene with alpha and negan in the forest??? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???
You better get your tears ready before watching!! :sob::broken_heart:
Seeing them crawling in that tunnel made me claustrophobic.
Carol is the WORST. She should've been killed off 5 seasons ago.
Wtf the sex scene between the masked alpha and Negan
Agree with other reviewer... watch first 5 mins & last 5 mins, rest is garbage.
This episode was weird af with negan lol i mean we got the old stupid carol back XD
Tense episode and I get why Carol would receive a lot of backlash in the show and by the fans but I am still standing with her. I do hope that the writers aren't going to botch it up. They've worked so hard to establish a badass character and awesome development, they shouldn't undo all of that by making her too emotional. I fear they might set her up for her comic book death.
Negan and Alpha... WTF. I think I'm traumatized for life now.
Welcome to one of TWD's darkest episodes, probably inspired by the episode of Game of Thrones from last year "The Long Night." Some good intense moments but not much development for the story from this episode.
Well, that was great! Loved how subtle the fat-shaming was!
It’s hilarious how you are all bitching about Carol like she is a real person. If you don’t like what is happening with the character, blame the writers. Seems like they are making everyone hate on Carol so they can kill her off. They don’t want the fans turning the tv off because they killed the Carol we all loved.
When Alpha smiles at them from above because Carol led them into a pit full of zombies. Carol just screams at Alpha like a jerk in rage.
Just have Carol kill Alpha already. Then go back to smart Rambo Carol who can take out an army by herself.
At least we’re rewarded with one of the creepiest sex scenes of all time.
A bit dark to watch I managed to get it early. No spoilers but interesting episode, it's about time TWD picked up its been a bit slow
Just watched this episode early, How dumb so hell bent on revenge to fall for a trap. Neagan and Alpha well and see!! No spoilers...

I can’t see shit! It’s soooo dark in the cave scenes.
