Vesemir says "It feels like bullsh*t now" and it is an apt summary of this episode. It had totally nothing to do with the plot of Sapkowski's novels, which the show is allegedly based upon. Instead of taking the events from the book and transferring them to the screen, the showrunners decided to tell their own story about the witcher. If only it was a good story like it is the case with the games, but no, they had to invent some awful plot with the ancient evil witch Voleth whom nobody ever heard about in the novels, who posseses Ciri so that she turns wicked and starts murdering witchers and teleporting monsters from other sphere to Kaer Morhen so that they could kill more witchers. Vesemir and other witchers want to kill the possessed Ciri but Geralt believes he may help her come back and free herself from the possession. Meanwhile, the real Ciri is in a sort of vision of Cintra where she is happy and both her parents are alive, a vision supposedly created by the witch Voleth so that she can continue to possess Ciri's body as Ciri does not want to come back to the real world. Yennefer sacrifices her life to save Ciri and become a new vessel for the witch, but after Ciri is freed from possession, she uses her magic to teleport the witch back to her world, where she apparently possesses the wild hunt. Back at Kaer Morhen, it appears that Yennefer regained her magic because she was ready to die for Ciri -> this is how the showrunners solve problems which would not have existed at all had they stuck to the source material. It is nice that Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri are now a small patchwork family and the mage and the witcher would work together to protect Ciri, as it should have been the case from the beginning, without any this evil!Yennefer plot twist. Another small plus of the episode is that Phillipa is finally shown, she looks good with her clothing including some owl elements. Francesca went evil and started to kill children with her magic, later the elves captured Istredd who told them about Ciri's elder blood to save his life. So many political factions are now looking for Ciri. Meve is shown in the council of the Brotherhood with the kings and she suggests that Ciri is better dead than alive, Tissaia and others plan to capture and kill her, which I don't think was the case in the books, since in one of the volumes Ciri goes with Yennefer to become a student of Aretuza, so the sorceresses were not definitely intending to hunt and kill her like it is suggested in the show. And at the very end of the episode, the showrunners decided to reveal the identity of the emperor Emhyr, something that is not explained in the books until the last volume! I have no idea what they intended to achieve by doing that, spoiling the books for the viewers who have not read them yet. Ciri herself as well as Geralt and Yennefer learn about Ciri's father at the end of the last volume in the saga, in a very emotional scene which would never be possible to be shown in the series due to the stupid decisions of the showrunners.
Now that I had some time to think about it I still think season 1 was better. It's a shame but they Americanized it. double the violence, everything spelled out, linear storytelling, (almost) no sex or nudity, less gore. The production quality has stayed the same but sometimes it felt like Geralt was a supporting character for others. Most monsters killed with ease. Thank the gods they didn't Mary Sue Ciri but Yennefer did almost everything out of line with the character's behavior in the previous season. I understand she was struggling but it's hard to accept that bad-ass hero is now hugging a Jaskier
It's a decent and entertaining show on it's own. It's just knowing the books, Henry Cavills absolute love for them and the budget behind the show it could be so much more than just okay.
As a show on it's own it's a solid 8/10. But as an adaption of incredible books? 2/10.
Season two - for me - was one a whole new level of greatness compared to the first. I have to admit that the first two episodes took some getting used to again since it's been so long but ones I familiarized myself with this world again it grabbed hold of me (again).
The finale was great. It felt like a solid conclusion to what was building up throughout this season while also setting everything up for the next one. It's great to see our little family come together even though you can feel the bad blood between Geralt and Yennefer.
As soon as Geralt asked the question - about how Nilffgard already knew about Ciri - I knew who the white Flame was. I feel like the aha moment was timed just right because beforehand I didn't even ask myself that. I was curious who he was and what he wanted and now I'm only more confused. Left with about twenty new questions.
I spend the whole of season one hating Fringilla and now I can't help but root for her. Also, in this world where now everyoneeee wants a piece of Ciri I root the most for the Elves - part from the obvious... Ciri and her dysfunctional found family -. While what Francesca did this episode was beyond gruesome and cruel I believe the Elves deserve to have their world back most.
And now it's just waiting for the third season... hopefully it won't take as long as this one took.
Wait... People actually didn't like this episode? It's literally the best episode of any show put out this year.
I loved the season up to this episode, but the quality really dropped here. The series is enjoyable but it’s so…. I don’t know, Netflixy?
The color grading, the costumes, the could-be-better CGI, bad fight directing and choreography along with some awful casting choices (Triss, Lambert and holy fuck Emyhr and that cringy reveal, who the fuck are these actors and where did they find them, on the street?) make me watch it while the question “Damn, how awesome this would’ve been if it was made by HBO?” keeps hovering over my mind.
Definitely better overall than the first season, but, again, CAN YOU IMAGINE IF IT WAS MADE BY HBO?
Great ending!!!
Much better than season 1. I really thought of quitting this show but luckily I didn‘t!
I don‘t know the source material… so I don‘t care if there are any differences.
Can‘t wait for season 3 !
Really good finale to an awesome season of The Witcher. Season 2 felt much more epic than the first and the story really expanded in a big way. The ending was quite shocking and I can‘t wait to see where it‘ll go in Season 3.
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about the source material and having only played The Witcher 3 like 3 years ago, I don't find this anywhere near as compelling as Game of Thrones, a show this clearly aspires to be.
I like the 3 main characters alright but I don't care about any of the other side characters.
My god this was a mess. They're seriously butchering this franchise but really what do we expect from Netflix?
“It’s not a question of price. It’s a matter of cost.”
What was the cost of the writers going this crazy and off the books with this season?
If Geralt can kill the big mother of all basilisks in just a few seconds, if he had just put a little attention on the baby ones, they’d have been dead in the blink of an eye instead of killing some of his brethren.
But finally we saw the owl. And nice twist in the end.
As a finale, this was too underwhelming. Most of it was, anyway. It started feeling like a proper season finale during the last few minutes. As an episode, I'd say it was more of the better ones, which seems to be an unpopular opinion. One of the better ones when compared to the previous few episodes. I think the first few episodes of the season were better: and the best of this season as well.
A huge part of why this was underwhelming as a finale, I think, is because most of the episode was this lackluster "face-off" against Voleth Meir-possessed Cirilla, trying to save Cirilla, all while simultaneously trying to deal with the monsters Voleth Meir kept sending out. That will tend to make an episode feel super underwhelming when it's the season finale.
That was dragged out further by the Witchers struggling to beat them and fighting them in the background forever. But once dragging that out had run its course, there was no more struggling; both monsters, easily killed. One by Lambert and a second Witcher. And the other by Coen. The plot gave them the green light to stop being garbage at their purpose for being Witchers.
I guess having there be more Witchers than Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert, Coen, and Eskel equals no longer a problem: considering pretty much all of them are dead now, right? Still, having more, to begin with, was questionable: even more when the purpose was to off most of them in the end. But, hey. I guess, to get the point get across, that Voleth Meir is dangerous, she had to drop bodies. Even though she conveniently only killed fodder Witchers and not Lambert, Coen, or Vesemir. So were the other Witchers killed by the monsters. Convenience. Convenience.
So, here you have a decent amount of elves walking through Redania with Francesca killing babies along the way, and there are conveniently no people outside to spot them. And it was during the day, too. Wow, that's great. Maybe Dijkstra is so far ahead of everyone else, he expected that to happen: and somehow it happening is a good thing for him; that's why nobody was outside to spot the elves? Or there was nothing clever about that, whatsoever, and it was only for plot's sake.
Well, Yennefer has her magic back, which is great and all, but what was the point of her "losing" it in the first place? Character growth? Or to nerf her? I don't get it. And the way she got it back doesn't make much sense, either. Hell, we don't even know what happened to make it seem like she lost her magic. I guess the writers are trying to make it seem like Voleth Meir did something, right? But that doesn't make sense. Or something else that I don't get, whatsoever.
cont.) My theory was that it was because she had Dimeritium chains on for too long, maybe. Because of a mental block? Or maybe even of a mix of both? Regardless of what it was, the purpose of it happening didn't make much sense, and neither did how it was "resolved."
Yennefer looked different when she healed Coen. More lively and not gloomy, facial appearance-wise. I guess getting your magic back is the ultimate method for improving your looks immediately and the like. No need for the makeup department anymore. Do YOU want to look better without putting in the work? Well, look no further! Get yourself a Yennefer today!
Well, well, well. Lydia, oh, Lydia. Get it? You know, Breaking Bad? Anyway, as I predicted, Lydia survived. I guess she and Rience are perfect for each other. They even have "matching" facial deformities because of being burned. Both of which also happened because they were idiots. It doesn't get any more perfect than that. When's the wedding?
As far as Lydia's "lord" is concerned, I think I know who it is. And I think he also has a burnt face in the novels. I guess he'll be joining the club in the third season, perhaps. Honestly, all of that is hilarious.
The owl has been revealed, at last. Philippa; is her name. I don't think I know anything about her, except that she was the owl. Anything that I remember, anyway. From when I casually skimmed through The Witcher's wiki. I feel like she could be one of the most significant (female) characters in the novels. I'm very interested to learn more about her in the third season.
One of my predictions was correct a second time, and I didn't mention it: yet again. I'm annoyed. First, I figured it was elves at the end of the premiere. And now, one of my theories concerning the murder of Francesca's child in the previous episode was that Emhyr was behind it. And, of course, I didn't mention it. I'll give the writers credit for making it seem like it was Dijkstra's doing. I didn't even think of that.
I think the twist with Emhyr wasn't revealed in the novels anywhere near as quickly as it was in the show. Based on a thing or two that I've read. So, I'm guessing that's a huge reason why some people hated this finale. I never read The Witcher novels, so I don't care. I liked how Cirilla's father didn't turn into ash like her grandmother, Mousesack, and her mother did, though. A subtle foreshadowing, if you will. Cool hint. But I was already aware of that twist.
cont.) But now that I think about it, that twist/reveal could've been reserved for later in the show. Easily much later. And I guess that because it wasn't, that also means that the show has already veered off-course extremely. I can understand somewhat, or not really, why that's a huge red flag for some people.
My general opinion is that this was one of the better episodes in this season, but it was a lackluster season finale. And I think one of the main reasons for it seeming like one of the better episodes had to do with the lack of political nonsense and nonsensical padding. Even then, I feel like it fell short when looking at it for what it was; a season finale.
Overall, this season mostly seemed like it was nonsensical and superfluous. So much was dragged out. A lot of the dialogue was the definition of saying a lot without saying anything. Hardly anything in this season felt important or had any impact. It was entertaining for those seeking entertainment, pretty much. But even that was somewhat held back from reaching its fullest potential: due to a few things.
Still, there's more than enough to this season for being entertained, and probably even more to future seasons, even if "things" get worse or better. To me, that's enough. The world is entertaining enough. And it's the same with the characters. As long as there continues to be entertainment, that's good enough for me. And I doubt that will cease to be the case in future seasons whether they hold the mantle of worse or better.
NOO GOD! NO. GOD. PLEASE. NO. NO!!! NO!!! NOOOOOO!!!
Jaskier is so annoying, jfc.
I was very much ready to accept the fact this season wasn't following the books, until the end of the episode. The biggest WTF reveal/moment for me in the books and it's been ruined for anyone who hasnt read them. Such a shame honestly.
I really loved this season , but I can't say that I loved this finale. I can't wait for season 3.
Wow, I'm impressed. It's a good action-mixed episode for an ending, and did you see that new show teaser at the end? I can't wait for it to be released.
WTH with Cirila’s father??!!! He is bad news and I hope Cirila find out about him and never forgive him because I am pretty sure he is the reason her mother is death…I can’t wait for season 3 and see what adventures Yen, Gerald and Cirila will face ahead…is going to be an amazing season I can see it now :D
And here I am coming here to say how much I enjoyed the finale and what do I find? A bunch of book snobs complaining. How surprising.
this didn't feel inspired, it's still enjoyable to watch but common, some things are really stupid. Some secondary characters have like 1 trait and that's it.
When she got possessed I knew it was going to be bad. Some fake ass mental fight we've already seen 10 times, while on the other side people are just waiting and chatting instead of using the potion.
Also the reveal was such a cliche
Not sure I’ve ever been so thoroughly unimpressed by a season finale before. I’m not even angry about it, just disappointed.
Nevermind. It was okayish before the reveal, but after... Just nope.
It was more enjoyable and even season than the first one. But so many things especially emotions and character's motivations were spelled out to a comical degree.
Apparently the twist with Emhyr was from the books. Yikes. I don't know how one can write something so cliche organically into the story. And what the point for soap opera twist anyway? Also wouldn't she willingly go with him if he told her... Nevermind.
OMG!!! Another PERFECTIONNNN of a season. I can't get over how INCREDIBLY they're doing this world and these characters justice!!! BRING ON SEASON 3!!
S1 was so good but S2 did not really justify the wait just like I thought. there were few good moments but nothing too big. mostly felt like they were building up for the finale while S1 had a lot of stuff going on.
Man, I enjoyed the rest of the series but these last few episodes were hard to get through. It's not often that I'll stop watching an episode midway, but I did it multiple times on this one because I had such a hard time holding interest.
They supposedly had a potion to save Ciri, but Jaskier didn't hand it to Geralt because it was too loud in the room? And then when Ciri was just standing there, not moving at all -- yet another chance to use the potion. I'm usually not critical about writing but man there were so many plot holes.
A bit of a disappointing ending, but still enjoyable.
OMG! I was actually starting to Zzzzzzz because it was just boring for a finale to a season of which was pretty good in most parts!
I don't get the fascination with Jaskier; I typically find the character useless and annoying. Just sayin'.
Finally, a good episode with some dang action. Overall this season was a disappointment to me.
Oh dear, what a finale!
Yenn's good again and fighting hard to make it right <3
The final intro had a nice, special animation, again :)
Jaskier's still sleepy :D (Like me :o)
The possessed Ciri killing all those Witchers was brutal to watch!... :o At least they didn't have any issues forgiving her after that. Which actually felt a bit too fast - it wasn't her but still...
Yenn sacrificed herself and then, yay, she's free again (Yenn free reminds me of Renfri :o :D).
It looked like they're quite f**ed but then Ciri managed to teleport them back. She suddenly learned to control her power quite fast... But I like it :D
And then there's that ending!!! Kinda pretty messed up. But I don't really like it yet. Might be better if Cici's parents remained dead. I guess there will be some more drama.
But at least Geralt, Ciri, Yenn (and Jaskier!) are back together. A "happy" family :D
I can't wait for S3... :o
This series is very bad. Each new episode gets worse and worse. But I'm so curious, how is it that the series has such a high rating?! I was not too lazy and summed up all the ratings and it turns out that the real rating of this terrible series is 5.9 (although this is too high a figure for such a :poop:!)

A truly awful finale to a mostly decent season. Words cannot explain how much I despised this episode. It's the episode that deviates most from the source material, and also the one with the worst action and writing. Voleth Meir was a stupid character, and she shouldn't have had such a presence in the finale. Most of this episode was a stupid CG fight with a bunch of dumb monsters while Ciri just stands there staring at Geralt. Not enjoyable to watch, and The Wild Hunt's appearance was awful and felt really badly done.
And then we get to the grand reveal... holy fuck that was AWFUL. I'm not even gonna get started on this - they have dumbed down this Emhyr stuff so badly. I'm so mad about it. The biggest reveal of the books, and they completely and utterly butchered it and his character in a single line to end the season.
